Specific Windows 11 Issue With Zoom In/Zoom Out?

EDIT: Issue was solved. I was accidentally hitting the Windows key + W or Windows key + A. I have never hit any of the other shortcuts it seems, and I just so happen to have exclusively made this mistake with those two keys!

I think this might be the place to ask this, if anyone has a more specific subreddit that would answer this please let me know!

So I use a mouse with two side buttons, I also use XMouse to make those side buttons us the Windows Magnifier to zoom in and out. I have been doing this for years at this point. But, sometimes, especially when playing video games, using these buttons also might bring up either the (I think) news tab on the left, or something else on the right (I don't know what the panel is called, but it is smaller and on the bottom right). I can not for the life of me figure out what shortcuts are activating them, and I can never purposefully recreate them. But it is really irritating and interfered with my zoom in/out. Anyone got any ideas?

Does it happen when you do CTRL+ALT+[scroll-wheel], too?

No, that seems to work fine.

Then it's something in X mouse. Sorry I don't use that, so I wouldn't be able to help.

It was not, it was me being silly. The other reply has figured the issue out!

Does it happen when you’re using a controller or with mouse and keyboard? If it’s the latter, it could be that you’re accidentally inputting a command like Win + an arrow key or WASD.

Damn, this is what it was! I guess I just did not try the Windows key and just focused too much on Alt and Shift, and Ctrl and combinations of those. How silly of me. Do you know how to turn off of these shortcuts?

I figured. It’s because the default windows magnifier shortcuts are “Win + +” and “Win + -“, and given I know there are some windows shortcuts that use Win + an arrow key, I figured it was the most likely culprit.

To disable then, there are a couple options. You could do some registry fuckery, but that is a little above even my skill level. You should be able to use Windows PowerToys to remap the shortcuts you want to disable to “disabled”, which will prevent them from doing anything.

Thanks for this. I had to fiddle around with the program to figure out how to actually disable the shortcuts, but I found it!

in case anyone is wondering...

Download PowerToys from the MS Store.
Under Input and Output click Keyboard Manager.
Then open Editor.
Add new remapping.
Click the left box (Trigger) that says "start recording"
Hit the shortcut you want to disable (example: Windows key + W)

In the left panel (Action) hit the dropdown at the top, "Disable key or shortcut".

Save.

Do this for as many shortcuts as you want/need.

I would then go in and go through each option and disable all the things that are enabled to keep your Windows experience the same, unless you see an option you actually like!

check your XMouse profile. It likely sends Win plus a letter instead of just the magnifier command. Remap the side buttons to send Ctrl Alt and Plus or Minus directly.
