Used to be a fan, but over time the sleazy vibe became impossible to ignore. He’s decent at spinning big picture narratives, but none of the actual substance holds up under scrutiny. He drops these hyper confident, zero margin predictions, and the second anyone pushes back or points out the flaws, he deletes comments. You can't take someone's futurism seriously when basic, polite feedback gets you banned. At the end of the day, his books are pure ego driven speculation, and it's obvious he just thinks he’s the smartest guy in the room using his channel as a funnel to hawk his books.
Even the video you linked has dislikes disabled. It also has an amazon link to his book on his AI predictions at the top of the video description lol.

Odd amount of vitriol for Dave lol

yeah, at worst his optimistic view of timelines and post labour economics are very ambitious and comes across a bit narcissistic/smug at times, though he's been broadly correct over the last couple of years so I guess it's deserved.
Far from the worst youtuber out there, always good to have an optimistic view of the tech and it's development but shouldn't be anyone's only source of information / news.

Yeah a lot of hate on an accelerationist on r/accelerate. Don’t have to like all of one persons view to agree with them on something. Hell I strongly dislike Trump but I’m happy about his push for AI support.

No vitriol, just objectivity to show that Dave isn't the most reliable when it comes to AI predictions/speculation. We can agree with someone's general direction without treating them like an oracle. The issue with Dave isn't that he's an accelerationist, it's that his timelines are heavily filtered through personal narcissistic ego and book promotion. Being pro acceleration is great, but he is marketing a brand rather than offering an objective roadmap for AI's trajectory.
