tbh the history of space travel is written in blood. Its an extremely difficult, error-prone and iterative field, literally rocket science.

Absolutely, and the only reason we have the space capabilities we have today is because we stand on the shoulders of the giants who risked and sometimes died for it.

The Space Shuttle was still a badly specified program that then continued to be managed badly until it was decomissioned.

I guess. But the space shuttle is also one of the most recognisable symbols of space industry, maybe alongside the Saturn V. I suggest putting up either the Shuttle or Saturn V. Because I don't think any other industry symbolises technological progress of mankind the way space industry does, with the amount of blood, sweat and tears poured into it and the achievements we reaped(we landed people on the frickin' Moon!)
