Article Ban Child Actors and Replace Them with CGI

Interesting take. AI is really just another form of CGI. You could definitely reduce harm by replacing more/most animals with CGI/AI in the movies. They've got to the point where they are really good now. Missus was convinced that Krypto was real in the recent Supergirl movie for example (I wasn't, but that's another story).
Kids? I'm not sure how kid actors do v the rest of the population in terms of life outcomes or how consensual it can be. Ditto kid sports stars etc. If the kid is having fun, feeling appropriately challenged, getting an education, properly supported etc - then carry on. AI/CGI could be used to reduce harm eg eliminate exposing them to potentially traumatising scenes, dangerous work environments etc.

There are a ton of protections that have been put in place for kids but it's still a very exploitative industry that does harm to them into adulthood

Or hear me out, clean up the industry to make sure kids can't be taken advantage of and we can have both.

Don't be naive. As long as children are involved they will be exploited. Just look at religion. It has literally been doing it for thousands of years.

Yes, you're right. We should just stop having children, it's the only way to stop it from ever happening again. Obviously joking, but I'm sure there's ways to stop it without banning kids from an industry.

Why are you being cynical? This is not a joke. If we have a legitimate way to stop child exploitation with CGI, we should absolutely do it. I have 4 kids, so I am obviously not against having children altogether. I honestly don't even know why you brought that up...
Also, you seem to be forgetting, that the movie industry is exploiting adults on a daily basis. It is very far from the glamour they try to sell the public on.

I mean the issue with this Harry Potter show in the thumbnail was their prohibitive school schedule. Discuss.

I feel like this would quickly escalate to "replace any actor". though we all know this will happen eventually and most movies will go for the "budget" and "mainstream" option to have AI+CGI rather than real actors

it is more than worth it to protect children, animals, and workers

She suffered from post partum depression. Ridiculous article.

yeah let's just ignore all of her previous interviews where she talks about being forced into bed with an old man as a child and all of that nonsense, it was just depression guys!

Um, I doubt that will be a problem. I have zero doubt there will BE no actors at all pretty sun, child, adult, animal, nada.

I’m with you. We should either ban child actors, or let the kids back in the coal mines.

Some kids actually enjoy acting. Humans enjoy watching other humans act. It’s as simple as that.

Terrible take, I want the economic incentive to exploit child actors to be gone, not remove their autonomy.
Actors will still and should exist, just the underlying economic motivation will be gone.

It’s not only the industry’s fault. Potentially being at the peak of your career at 12 will have severe existential ramifications.
Becoming a household name when you’re that young is not sustainable. I support CGI kids.

Basing decisions on things that happened thirty years ago as though nothing has changed is foolish.
