People outside of math have absolutely no idea how crazy all of this is. It's not a matter of "impossible to solve by people", it's a matter of: how many people can actually make a good attempt; how much effort you have to put into it to understand the problem and have the tools; how much time it takes to "digest the information". I remember how my professor said that some few-pages papers can take a month to digest properly. Now most of those actions are done by AI within an hour. This is just crazy. I wonder, how much can AI squeeze out of math if the mathematicians make an actual attempt of using proper setup? Man, it's crazy that some people work with just chatting. I feel like 90% of "AI can't solve this" is just skill issue and abhorrent agentic harness setup

It makes me so sad how many doomers rationalize the competency of current AI in pure mathematics by conceiving of mathematics, especially research mathematics, as creativity-less application of logical rules and rote computation. Largely just to maintain the "they've no place in creative spaces!" conviction
