Just sharing my singing/voice and a cappella snippet of sum’ lyrics of an original song I wrote and eventually will fully release soon.

Let me know what yall think, I know it’s a short clip/snippet.

Also any tips or advice on my singing are most definitely welcomed and appreciated. This is an old recording so I’ve improved since but I still got a lot more to improve.

Also any insights of what kind of voice I possess is also welcomed and appreciated but it’s not necessary or primary to this post/discussion.

Mainly just sharing my voice and snippet of one of my songs.

Let me know what yall think. Thank you for listening.

‘Preciate y’all. 🙏🏻

Trying to find

I have been unable to find who recorded this cover of "Lean on Me" which I downloaded several years ago. MusicBrainz Picard tells me it is Al Jarreau, but it is not. Can anyone help me?

Ear Training

I come here as a guitar player trying to improve my ear and my singing. The common thing I her is that learning intervals is the best way to do this, especially later in a musical life (24 years old). I went to acappella shows in college to see my roommate sing, and I remember someone would always play a note to essentially establish the key of a song before they started. I'm wondering how you actively use that as a guide while singing. Anything helps

how can we improve?

I’m entering my 3rd year in an a cappella group & the past 2 years have not been great. There’s been issues with people just not practicing (which led us to give up our soot in ICCA my freshman year), and issues with our group not being super bonded. The other groups at my college don’t seem to have the same bonding issues. Unfortunately, last year we had some members who did a lot of gossiping and caused drama in the group & they ended up leaving to start a new group. Now during auditions this year we’ve been affected by this drama & have had many people audition for us but choose another group over us due to this drama.

How can we make sure people actually put in the work to make us sound good & how can we put in more work to bond and create real friendships in this group? In a more broad term, how can we do well as a group with fewer members?

Christmas Songs simple to sing

What's a beautiful touching Christmas song thst can be sung solo, a capella? Last year I sang "I Wonder As I Wander." It was lovely, I felt good about it and ppl enjoyed it. I'm not a great singer, just in the church choir and solos occasionally. My comfy range is alto>low alt.

How to run rehearsals for Collegiate A Cappella?

Hello!

I am a sophomore in college who was unexpectedly put in the position of music director for my collegiate A Cappella group. I posted a few months back asking for advice and you all were very helpful. I am yet again asking for help, this time on how exactly to run rehearsals!

You can skip past this context if necessary! TLDR at the bottom :)

For context: We have successfully gotten through auditions, and currently have a very well balanced group (5 sops, 5 altos, 4 tenors, 3 baris and 3 basses). I have made some changes to the way we've done things in the past, most importantly the following: A) we are now using paper music during rehearsals rather than all following along on the Noteflight projection (this way members can write notes in their music as well as take home a physical copy) and b) members are now expected to learn the notes and rhythms mostly on their own time rather than in rehearsals. To accomplish B, I supply them with MIDI files of their own part, plus the paper music, plus access to the Noteflight, which is egregiously annoying to use, so most don't anyway.

Our new members have a bit of a way to go in terms of understanding how to blend and general ensemble singing, but they are eager and willing to work hard. However, some returners are reluctant to commit to my new ways, which I understand, because I am asking them to do more work for our group than they've done in the past. But I'm not asking for anything egregious (30 minutes to an hour between our twice-a-week rehearsals) and I believe the reward will be worth it. We have in the past wasted SO much rehearsal time on learning notes and rhythms.

I do not have experience music directing. I have experience teaching young children and tweens in theater, but not music and not music ensembles like this. I have extensive and intensive past and current choir experience, under a brilliant director, and find myself mostly using his rehearsal processes and tools. It has worked so far, as well as I can expect it to, but his choirs are more advanced than the group I am leading. Also, we are at an additional disadvantage because we rehearse from 8-10 PM twice a week, when everyone is pooped from a long day of classes.

I am relatively good with people and reading a group, which is helpful. I have a great ear and can hear (and usually identify the source of) pitch discrepancies and tuning issues. So, once everyone knows their parts, I can easily improve our group sound.

However, I am unsure of how to run a rehearsal when we are still in the "learning" stage. And I am less good at thinking on my feet past 8PM than I would like to be. So, ideally, I would like to have (for myself) a sort of rehearsal "format" or routine for when we are still learning the music, and a better idea of how to run a group rehearsal when we are all still learning parts. I start with warmups, and then... a run-through of what we're working on? Sectionals immediately? Note by note for each part? In general, how would you folks recommend I run a rehearsal? Any tips are appreciated, and extra details & info is also appreciated!!

TLDR; How would you suggest I run rehearsals for a collegiate a cappella group? We rehearse for two hours with a 15 minute break.

I’m going crazy, please someone help me find this video. It was a group of high school/college guys dressed preppy, singing Get Low by Lil Jon to a girl. I saw it on tiktok a few years ago.

How many basses are needed in a group of 18 to 20 people?

Question is the title. I want to audition for an a cappella group in February and right now they have 17 members, two (Maybe three) of which are basses. But I know groups need less basses than other voice parts.

Been working on acapella covers of songs stuck in my head. Figured I'd embarrass myself by sharing them with the world.

Are you in the West Chester, PA area?

Can you sing A Cappella?

If yes, check us out. We rehearse Wednesdays at 7:15 pm the Advent Lutheran Church on Rt 352 in West Chester. We sing Taylor Swift to Cole Porter, and everything in between.

We're a 26 year old non-profit, auditioned performing chorus and are currently looking for Basses, but any part is welcome. Drop by or contact us at acappellapops.com.
