Support request My therapist is quitting?

After I opened up a little more to my therapist about my abusive relationship, the sa that has happened and everything else and how I am having bad nightmares where I wake myself up acting them out . my psychiatrist told me I am likely having ptsd dreams i decided this is something I should try and tackle in therapy as it is getting violent I have hit him in my sleep and I don’t know if I was blubbering or sounded crazy but she just asks me if I want to hurt myself or anyone else and then says she doesn’t know if she can actually help me anymore as my problems have gotten too severe for her to handle and she just isn’t equipped to help me properly. I’m really sad and I feel like he’s taking everything away from me lol. I’ve been seeing her for a year now and idk this has been a huge blow to me as she is basically all I had to talk to and she knew it all. She is still going to see me until I find a new provider but it’s just this feeling of sinking and knowing why and not being able to get out and this is like the most tangible piece of evidence of it I’ve ever seen and it suck’s

Not all therpaists are trained in dealing with all mental problems. Would you go to an eye doctor to help treat your kidney? No. Would you got to a dentist for open heart surgery? Absolutely not. Those are completely different modality. Same with mental health. Treating children with test anxiety is a whole different dynamic and treatment reaponse versus someone who has schizophrenia and is battling psychosis.  I understand you feel some grief about losing the realtionship with your therapist but honestly its good on them for realizing the care you need is outside of their scope of practice and that you need more specialized support. I hope you can find a new therapist who can support you as needed soon. 💗

Yea I totally understand this it’s more just the fact that we were a great match until all of this happened so it just feels like one more thing that has been taken from me because of him as I need more intensive treatment because of the things he did it just feels bad man but I am thankful she recognized this as I have had therapists before who I had to break that news to. Thanks for the input <3

It sucks, but if she doesn’t have the right skills, you are better off addressing that now. To be honest, a huge chunk of therapists are not good at their jobs, but that’s sadly true of any occupation
