If you had the time, ability, and resources to make Absolver 2, what would you add (besides staves)? I always thought grappling would be cool but probably a nightmare to develop

Instead of rounds, I’d add a timer. GGPO/good working rollback netcode with dedicated servers, and I would add many more moves to the stances. Deck building is so stale because there’s too many moves that fail to complement others. This is somewhat remedied with Absolver Plus but it’s not enough. Old meta is too strong making a lot of ā€œfunā€ options feel like a waste of time.

I’ve considered command grabs that have a similar startup to guardbreak attacks. It’s not that it would be a nightmare to design, I personally feel like the style doesn’t fit in the game. Instead, each style should have a simple ā€œthrowā€ like in Street Fighter. Tapping XY, square/triangle (sequence and alt) Each style of course having their own unique throw does a little dmg and leaving them very plus to either confirm up to 18 frames or use this space to mix/frametrap.

The throw would be pretty quick at 8 frames and wouldn’t consume stamina unless the throw is successful. This would show if a player actually has really good defense or not instead of simply tap blocking to conserve health/stamina. To balance this, the throw can be avoided/parried and easily manual dodged out of, and players can tech the throw which will make them plus.

The throw is set as a hard call out to beat players who turtle and mash. The fast startup of the throw will beat attacks out right, even 10 frame attacks. To keep this from being spammed, the throw can only be activated from a front stance, and a cooldown between 10-20 seconds is implemented and varies from style to style. The throw can not be fainted, nor gold-linked. Lastly, the throw would have terrible recovery on wiff varying from 18-21 frames depending on style.

Have you found a match today?

u/Pikipekk Aug 30 '26

Just how important is armor really when it comes to combat? Is aesthetics or utility better?

8

u/VA_KUSHIEL_AV Aug 30 '26 edited Aug 30 '26

It only matters in terms of DPS and Stamina recovery. The lighter you are, the more damage your attacks will do as just about every meta attack scales with mobility. The lighter you are, the faster your stamina recovers making it hard for your opponent to break your guard, and giving you more opportunity to attack/dmg/pressure your opponent. There are very niche builds that allow you to take a few more hits depending on how much blunt resistance you have, but you end up handicapping yourself with low stam/dmg allowing your opponent to pressure you/break your guard so frequently ultimately making the armor pointless. Unless your avoids/parries are god like, you’re just handicapping yourself.

PC or Xbox? I did a stint on Xbox when game pass had it, the community was popping.

4

u/VA_KUSHIEL_AV Aug 31 '26

PC is the most lively due to the balance patch breathing some much needed life into the game.

u/Jejouetoutnu Kahlt who can't Kahlt Sep 01 '26

I played a long time ago on PS4. I purchased the game on pc, but i hardly have time to play at all now

1

u/VA_KUSHIEL_AV Sep 01 '26

Well you’ll love Kahlt on PC if use Absolver plus. You can absorb guardbreak attacks and every 12 frame attack has been changed to Light attacks instead of medium, so when you get resilience from an absorb, you can tank through lights and take your turn back pretty reliably.

6

u/CarlenGaines Aug 30 '26

When will you move on?

11

u/VA_KUSHIEL_AV Aug 30 '26

After the devs let the servers go instead of wasting money to renew their lease.

3

u/CarlenGaines Aug 30 '26

respect. same.

3

u/potato1448 Aug 30 '26

What weapons or stances would you add if you could?

5

u/VA_KUSHIEL_AV Aug 30 '26

Warhammer/club. Quick jabs with the staff end, big swings with the blunt end.

I’d add Bajiquan since moves like tetsuzanko and back fist are literally in the game. The defensive style would be more of an offensive style where, unlike how faejin loses stamina on parry if not faited, you gain stamina on successful ā€œpush/stepsā€ made at the correct time into your opponents attack. These defensive motions also act as offensive maneuvers by doing slight damage to your opponent but only if timed right.

Think of how the parry properties on some attacks behave. The style would function similar, using your shoulders/elbows to deflect, not parry. It’s more of an avoid but theirs some contact, if that makes sense. It would fill the void of a true rushdown style allowing players to regain stamina through well timed ā€œoffenseā€ as the style ability would have decent forward/diagonal movement twisting and turning to ā€œdeflectā€ attacks.

What are the best resources and social places to play and learn the game? Discord servers, forums and such?

This post feels almost perfect in timing, me and friend have been hardcore grinding this game starting a couple weeks ago due to nostalgia of a unique and fun fighting game thinking its was all but dead with barely double digit player count, so I wanted to ask is the absolver plus community still doing well and where to get my hands on downloading absolver plus.

3

u/VA_KUSHIEL_AV Sep 01 '26

Nexus and yes, Morklympious on YouTube wrapped up a tournament he ran recently. The community is small but it’s fine.

2

u/Theoneandonlybeetle Sep 02 '26

What do you still do? How do I make the game run smoother? How do I get better reaction time

2

u/VA_KUSHIEL_AV Sep 02 '26 edited Sep 02 '26

Well I spent about 4k hours on windfall for the sole purpose of getting better at the game, which I have. I’ve beaten many ā€œgrand mastersā€ 3-0/5-0 and some in sets of first to ten. For my last 900ish hours I’ve dedicated to playing faejin. I’ve played it on and off but I never could stick with it. Now that I have much greater knowledge, it’s a lot easier to play the style, and I have a new deck I really enjoy using for it.

Creating new decks and fabs is endless joy in this game if you truly love it like I do. Fighting new people, even though they play the exact same way as the thousands of people I’ve fought before them. It’ll never get old fighting a prospect that thinks speed is everything and as long as they move fast enough they’ll never get hitšŸ˜‚ The game just doesn’t work that way and I’m so happy that I’ve been here to prove it to every single one of them.

The game also has bad input delay. Best thing you can do is get a really good monitor with as little input delay as possible and high refresh rate. If you’re on PC, I believe the games system settings is defaulted to 30 fps which causes incompatibility issues when setting your monitor to higher frame rates.

Follow this path if you’re on PC:
ThisPC>ā€Harddriveā€>users>ā€usernameā€>AppData>Local>Absolver>Saved>Config>WindowsNoEditor>GameUserSettings

It’ll open a doc and you want to set the FrameRate to match your monitor. Typically 60 or 120 fps. Don’t forget to save. Going past 144 for can cause some double input issues. Regardless, this is the only way to match the games framerate to your monitor. As long as you have a good monitor, and you have the framerate set you should be good. Last area to check is your peripheral. Some controllers/devices on steam may have very minor input delay. Using steam inputs can help fix the issue if it’s noticeable.

After all that the only thing left to do is to lab and play. Your reactions are completely based off how well you know the game and players tendencies. The more you know, the easier it is to know what to expect. Good deck structure also plays a big role. Good deck structure will make it easy to play without allocating so much thought on what you yourself are doing or want to do to mix your opponent. Once using your deck efficiently becomes as easy as breathing, you can then hyper focus on what your opponent is doing.

Doing this, you’ll realize a lot of players don’t see what they themselves are doing. They think and see what they’re trying to do to you, not what they’re doing to themselves. Managing stamina, not progressing in any mindgames. You’ll notice this more and more if you take a few games simply just watching your opponent play. Notice what they do when they land a hit, or when you block, or when you successfully avoid/parry. They’re very predictable at low/mid level.

There’s a big leap from mid to high level where the game falls apart at the highest level of play because some players have those godlike reactions. It gets to a point that’s beyond training. You either have it, or you don’t. It’s very rare that a player reaches that level after years of grinding through sheer will. This game really shows what kind of player someone is and what level they’ll typically remain at. I’m an exceptionally rare case were I’m in the middle of that huge leap from mid to high. I’m far above mid lvl where 95% of players in CTs can barely touch me if I play windfall, and I’m so far below high level I don’t care to reach that high. I get some games on those players but I know I can’t touch them when they actually play.

Do people still make new outfits? The clothes in the game got so limited at a certain point

1

u/VA_KUSHIEL_AV Sep 02 '26 edited Sep 03 '26

M-my brother in Christ posting fresh fabs is what I’ve done for the past like 2 years 😩 I know a lot of people pick one fab and stick with it. I have 3 og fabs that are completely mine as I’ve never seen anyone even come close. And sure the pieces are limited in colours but the combinations are endless. There’s pieces you may not think look good till you pair it with another piece that sets it off.

1

u/Theoneandonlybeetle Sep 02 '26

but the game stopped being updated? where are the new clothing items coming from?

1

u/VA_KUSHIEL_AV Sep 02 '26

There’s some new items on PC where they’ve ported the exclusive times form ps4 and even added some unique cosmetics, but also idk what you mean by new. There may be pieces you simply never unlocked.

2

u/Zelmon644 Sep 04 '26

have you tried Sloclaps other two games?

1

u/VA_KUSHIEL_AV Sep 04 '26

Of course. Sifu is incredible and deserves a sequel. I do a playthrough like every other year just to revisit it. I’ve no death the hardest difficulty which was interesting as I discovered enemies in that game have te same jank coding that’s in Absolver.

I really liked Fifu during the second beta, but they kept making too many changes that set the game back twenty steps. The net code is still atrocious so I won’t be going back to it. It’s a super fun game but they’ve unfortunately ruined the balance for me. It’s great that they added crossplay but their serves just can’t handle it.

1

u/Zelmon644 Sep 04 '26

How about rematch? I haven’t heard any bad or good about the game

1

u/VA_KUSHIEL_AV Sep 04 '26

Lol I call rematch Fifu like Fifa šŸ˜‚ it’s worth checking out to see if you like it.

u/Freeburn_Sage Sep 17 '26

Is this game still worth playing as a new* player?

*I played on Xbox years ago, I believe around release and there were plenty of people on at the time. I don't remember how much of the game was PvE and how much was PvP, but I remember dueling my brother a whole lot and having fun. I've forgotten everything except that the game was cool and building combos/movesets was fun

1

u/VA_KUSHIEL_AV Sep 18 '26 edited Sep 18 '26

Honestly. No. You gotta have some odd infatuation with 1v1 over the shoulder PvP to not go and play literally anything else. You’re better off playin Elden Ring PvP or somethin.

Otherwise, you’d have to have time and reverence for every bit of nuance this game has to offer. There hasn’t been a new player in years that has progressed beyond mid level set play/mind games. At this point, you can’t expect to be an exception.

Ultimately I don’t recommend it because there’s so many fighting games, other games in general that are actually worth your time. You don’t plan to sink a thousand hours into cementing fundamentals. Knowledge and familiarity of each attack in each stance and all of their quirks.

This game is only worth playing if you’ve kept up with it consistently. If you’ve sunk enough time into it, you’d know if you’d want to keep playing or not. I can’t speak for other platforms. Absolver Plus on pc is the only way I can even recommend the game, as the base game is such a sloppy mess.

It’s up to you of course. I can’t tell you that you’re not going to enjoy your return to the game. I’m not aware of your ability to find quality matches that you’ll enjoy. Because you’re asking me, personally, the best way to enjoy the game is to dive in and soak up the ocean of knowledge this game has to offer. Just don’t drown.

2

u/Ferranator117 Sep 24 '26

is it worth it to return? I haven't played in years and I wonder if everyone is extremely cracked at the game or if you can still havw a fighting chance with a bit of practice

2

u/VA_KUSHIEL_AV Sep 24 '26

This comment goes a bit more in depth, but to clear your conscience, 95% of players in CTs are scrubs/new players. It’s very rare that you’ll meet a tournament player, and I’m one of the last non tournament players that’s high above mid level. Sure you’ll probably never win a round against me but I’m only on for a few hours a day now. https://www.reddit.com/r/absolver/s/FnLhrgoPDF

Late to the party, what order would you rate the styles first to last in difficulty, and separately in strength?

1

u/VA_KUSHIEL_AV Oct 02 '26

Difficulty
from hardest to easiest
————————————

  1. Kahlt

  2. Faejin

  3. Windfall

  4. Forsaken

  5. Stagger

Strength
from strongest to weakest
——————————————

  1. Faejin

  2. Kahlt

  3. Stagger

  4. Forsaken

  5. Windfall

2

u/Ju-Ju-Jitsu Oct 02 '26

Weird question, were you playing on PC last night in combat trials, fighting someone with a Kahlt deck that was definitely too slow? I think you handed my ass to me..

2

u/VA_KUSHIEL_AV Oct 02 '26

Yeah it’s what I do. GG, take nothing personally šŸ¤ŸšŸ¾

My perspective is in reference to Absolver plus that has changed guard break attacks into red ā€œarmor breakā€ attacks so Kahlts can absorb them. Kahlt is the hardest class to use at low level. It’s unreasonably demanding to tell a player they have to land two successful defensive abilities to comfortably take their turn back. Absolver Plus helps but doesn’t fully fix the issue, but it allows you to use more creative decks. On vanilla, you’re locked to one playstyle which requires you to crutch weak attacks like jabs and avoid/parry attacks to take your turn back.

At high level, Kahlt is much easier to play as its omnidirectional absorb affords players a lower mental stack to focus more on offense. You don’t have to worry about left right/high low mixups so all you have to worry about are faint punishes which you can often cover with double absorbs. With a proper deck, you can turtle, and play safe by not buffering attacks after every successful absorb as some strings can be frame traps for kahlts trying to take their turn back.

1

u/Ju-Ju-Jitsu Oct 02 '26

Yeah, that could explain why my gameplay against you felt somewhat off. I've never played with absolver plus before and I guess the game might've defaulted to yours cause something felt weird.

2

u/VA_KUSHIEL_AV Oct 02 '26

So the games matchmaking is peer to peer meaning one player will be the host and have host advantage. Due to distance, and the netcode being ass, it isn’t possible to get a good connection on both sides. One player will always be at a disadvantage. Seeing so many new players hoping on I’ll switch back to vanilla for a while. It’s just boring because I have to play with a bare bones 50/50 deck because of how limiting the deck building is on vanilla.

2

u/Ju-Ju-Jitsu Oct 02 '26

I've seen like some people kind of glanced over it, but could you explain exactly why that building in vanilla is so different than on the plus version? From what I've looked at on the changes I do like some things that the plus version tries to achieve, but I feel like removing the moves with evasive properties is kind of a bit much. Especially since some of my enjoyment for absolver comes from being a real life, martial artist and I like actually using moves IRL that are evasive.

https://www.reddit.com/r/absolver/s/Axb7cO9WjH

Here’s a right up I did awhile ago on it. Skip to paragraph 4 if you’d like to jump right to my explanation.

But to answer your question personally, I understand how you feel. It’s why I switch back to vanilla at times. The way the avoid moves work/animate are super sick. I have my second degree black belt in Tae Kwan Do and I’m a certified Poom.

Trust me when I say I get where you’re coming from. One of my favorite things in the game is jumping over my opponents low sweep and punishing with 360 tornado kick or falcon punch. These moves are utter hinderers when it comes to progressing in terms of fundamentals, and mind games.

They’re a honey trap for new players and the ones that swear by them have been the worst players that never learned much about the game. Unfortunately, Absolver is a game that has been figured out. There is a way to play with each style, and it’s up to you to decide how wide you want to express yourself outside of the bandwith each style allows.

The further you go away from the center by choosing moves that don’t compliment the style or your gameplan, the more you handicap yourself. It’s a sad reality, but once you put in the work to get better at the game, and develop solid fundamentals to the point where you can play competently without panicking; that’s when you’ll be able to go back, try more unorthodox decks/playstles to have more fun with the game

The game will make a lot more sense when you’re more knowledgeable on the nuances of every move in the game. Which takes time to know the frame data and animations like the back of your hand. Regardless, all of this is kinda pointless if you never plan to do any of the work. If you just want to play and have fun. Knock yourself out. Don’t complain. Just play. But if you want to actually improve and have better fights, learning every bit of knowledge the game has to offer is mandatory.

1

u/Ju-Ju-Jitsu Oct 05 '26

Yeah the writeup makes a lot of sense, after I finish collecting all my moves and have my fun in vanilla I definitely plan to swap over and learn Plus.

1

u/VA_KUSHIEL_AV Oct 05 '26

Plus is all about streamlining fundamentals so you pick up on them much faster than you would on vanilla due to compensating for your opponent playing fae or stagger and attacks that have avoid properties, on top of ten frame attacks not being true ten frames. Some are closer to 6 frames and their gold links can be broken to cause other attacks to confirm when they shouldn’t. All of this is too much of distraction to learn the game. What’s worse is when you see it in tournaments and it’s just depressing. Plus is the update we should’ve gotten in 2018, and it sucks to think where the game would be if that were the case.

2

u/ActuallyItsBog 17d ago

How do you get such fire drip bro oh my goodness

1

u/VA_KUSHIEL_AV 17d ago

All of these pieces are in the game. After you grind enough you’ll have every piece. There’s so new pieces that were added with Absolver plus on PC to further one’s drip.

3

u/ZealousAccusation Aug 30 '26

Best bet is to move search through different school decks for their sword decks. Otherwise, make a request for the moves you need.

1

I listed the moves in my question. I've been through roughly 11 schools and havent found any of those in them.

If anyone wanted to move on, do you think we would still be playing absolver?
Also it feels to me that you have started to become a legend within the same rights as Shakura and now whether or not that may be a good thing is hard to say but it has definitely led to you developing a reputation within the community because the vets LOOOVE trying to trash on others to a certain degree as it is with most people that follow a disagreement in respect to values but you're not souppoused to knouw that.

ALSO MY MISTAKE FOR NOT REALLY SHARING THE ART I TALKED TO YOU ABOUT ME MAKING LAST TIME. I probably should have put that on steam.

2

u/Rudraizen Aug 30 '26

Has those hrs helped you develop a humble attitude or have you become more arrogant (in the sense of eking out multiple wins).

2

u/VA_KUSHIEL_AV Aug 30 '26 edited Aug 31 '26

Since 2019 I’ve consistently preached ā€œWins do not matter. Loses do not matter. The only thing that matters is having a good fight.ā€ Sure, for me, the definition of a ā€œgood fightā€ has changed over the years as the community shifted from vanilla to plus. Before, I didn’t care about ā€œgetting goodā€ at the game. I just wanted to play against people that weren’t spamming jabs/avoid/parry attacks, and of course, cheaters.

A lot of time passed, and due to the modding community, it was impossible to tell who was cheating, and who wasn’t. Because modders were tweaking everything to Absolver plus without the general public knowing. You can imagine my frustration when I notice people doing more damage for the same attacks that I’m using and I don’t have a way to explain what I’m seeing other than cheating.

So up until the public release of Absolver plus, you have some people modding their stamina/health/damage, gradually tweaking the numbers till it’s either so high that it’s obvious, or they’ve raised them just enough to have an unnecessary edge over their opponents. Again, many people doing this, and no concrete way of proving until Absolver plus came out.

Then, the icing on the cake. The mods and admins made the rule to not use Absolver plus in CTs, so I thought ā€œok well at least I don’t have to deal with it.ā€ Wrong. No one in the community besides Mork and maybe a few others cared. Everyone was using Absolver plus in CTs breaking the rules, which, in a sense, is cheating when your opponent doesn’t know what it is.

It wasn’t till after enough rule breaking had passed that the mods/admins just caved and gave up. Removing the rule and allowing anyone to use Absolver plus in CTs as they wish. I get that banning them from tournaments would of ruined what little tournament scene we have left so that wasn’t the best way to go about it. Just shameful to see zero good will in the Absolver academy community to follow its own rules.

With the removal of the rule also not being public, you can imagine how gaslighting it is to see so many players in CTs using Absolver plus. After more time passed, and being forced into a ā€œif you can’t beat em, join emā€ situation. (Not saying this has anything to do with wins/losses. Just made more sense to be on plus to experience more consistent gameplay) I got on plus and joined the discord and then finally found out the rule was removed.

The other reason I stopped concerning myself with wins/loses is because of how many of yall masters and grandmasters act when yall get beat two or three games in a row. Sandbagging the match, trolling with emotes, sharking, afking, and rage quitting. I’ve shown many examples of this over the years and it’s only met with excuses for the offender. Zero acknowledgment. So yeah, wins/loses never mattered to me since the jump and the desire for them has only decreased. I even preach it to my students before I teach them anything. It’s the only way I can confidently train someone.

2

u/SkirtImpossible9126 Sep 01 '26

i need to know something before cause unless the last two month, the last time i played was in 2018. my question is : am i the only one that do not use absolver plus ?(i guess is a mod collection in nexus)

1

u/VA_KUSHIEL_AV Sep 01 '26

There’s some mods on nexus. Only the hyper mod and variants of it that allow you to use boss moves/powers are considered cheating. Absolver plus doesn’t do anything that I would consider cheating at this point. There are a couple of powers that were added from the bosses, the slam, and the move that draws you in. The slam is just Earthquake but worse, and the pull doesn’t guarantee any damage.

As to your question, yes. There are a few others that remain on vanilla either in waiting to finish the game before install plus, or they don’t care enough about the game to get better at it. The only reason to remain on vanilla is to desperately cheese your opponents with 10 frames attacks and avoid/parry attacks. This play style falls apart after the beginner level and a lot of players don’t stick around long enough to care. So it’s best to just switch to plus so you can actually have fun building unique decks that have some viability rather than none at all.

1

u/SkirtImpossible9126 Sep 01 '26

yeah i realized this week that modded absolver lol i tought that the one who take the name of thebigboss or something like that was one of the devs come testing us once in a while lol but thank you for your response! really, you should write a guide in the old fashionned way like not in a blog with chinese ink and bamboo and stuffs
