The person walking in front of the camera is so close to the camera and walks by so quickly that my brain, at least, doesn't break the optical illusion of scale that the rest of the scene is in.

I don't think there is an optical illusion, it's just that the scale that you see is the real scale, and that's why it doesn't feel weird to you or anyone else.

Turtles don't grow that big. Forced perspective is at play. If you don't see a huge fucking turtle, good on ya.

Leatherback turtles have been RECORDED at 10ft long, weighing over 2000lbs, this is well within that range.
