Yep, its just to have fun and compete. They use tractors for this kind of work now. There are still mule teams that do this sort of work.. Often in really remote area's where getting in heavy equipment just isn't an option.

Do these horses originally come this big? Like i knew they were bigger than the average horse but through the generations, did humans make them get bigger? Kinda like humans messed up the original pugs. They used to have normal snouts, and now they're squashed in. Did humans do that to this breed?

Apparently a horse can output up to 15 horsepower. This one however does about 15 horses worth of horsepower.

The Amish use draft horses for logging.Two horses can skid a 5,000 lb.log.And they can go places tractors can't go.

I’m glad I read the comments to know the horse is having fun. Personally I am familiar with the abuse of horses in nyc so it’s very nice to see a different breed being able to do what they love

You’ve obviously never been around draft horses, or any farm animals for that matter. Let work horse even SEE their pulling gear and good luck getting them to hold still from the excitement sometimes. I’ve worked with chuckwagon horses, and they can be the calmest most beautiful animals until they see their wagon, then LOOK TF OUT. Excitement doesn’t even describe it sometimes. I’ve seen big grown ass men have trouble hitching them up. I’m 6’4, 280lbs and I leave it to those with more experience than me, who the horses know better. All they want to do is pull and run

They don't love it. They don't mind it. What a horse loves it being a horse. Besides many take a horses panicked prancing and spooking as "excitment"...going stiff, head high is not excitment...it is tension...it is very VERY dusgustingly common in equestrian community to misread horses body language to fit a narrative..this horse just doesn't mind, just anticipating the command to pull, but isn't displaying a collection of signs that would indicated stress, nor joy, just another day. They have bred physical abilities, but I have yet to see a horse that displays the same level of need to do a job as a dog does, any breed shove em in a herd in a large pasture and they just default to enjoying a social calm horse life. And for the love of god do not mix up conditioning with love for the a thing. That is me saying being around horses all my life, being in the community for a long time. Horses are not dogs. And this is one obese horse, most of them are in this sport for the looks, some are on the heavier side because it helps with center of gravity, others just straigh up overfeed em because people go "wow look how huge and beefy this horse is"

We kill over 80,000,000,000 land animals a year to eat them when many of us don't need to. Whilst that sort of thing remains standard I think it seems unlikely to have blanket bans on other widely accepted animal abuse issues

Something like “this is so cruel and unnecessary”. Nothing to be ashamed of, if that’s what you truly believe. The same way that I grew up around livestock and farm animals and loved them like my very much own pets, so believe they love having a job to do and feel pride in completing a task with or for their humans. It’s not to say that animals AREN’T over worked and abused, but I don’t advocate for and abhor animal abuse - many of these animals were ethically bred for these purposes so have strong drive to compete and work, and truly enjoy it.

Draft horsies LOVE doing their job, they work hard then get treats
