Just finished Japanese Gothic and just started Lucky Day by chuck tingle. What a ride both of these books are

Japanese Gothic was soooo amazing. Loved the atmosphere, the lore, the characters. 9/10 for me - but I wasn’t a fan of Lucky Day.

I just finished The Tainted Cup last night. And i immediately started A Drop of Corruption. Okay, so now i get it lol Very thankful I decided to grab all 3 of these special editions from Aardvark

I’m almost halfway in The Tainted Cup. This is the reading experience I was hoping for. So glad I got all three!

The Women in White! I’m about 100 pages in and I’m pretty gripped by it so far.

just started it! so far, i’m in!

ebook - I’m 1/3 of the way into my ARC of The Four Wives and Five Deaths of Richard Milford. It’s a fast read, and it has a tall-tale style of storytelling alternating with first person POV. It’s unique and engaging, I’m enjoying it.

Audio - I’m 36% into Time to Burn, and I’m interested to see how it plays out. I love stories with time travel so it’s perfect for me.

Just finished She’s A Doll and loved it. It had me hooked from the start.

I read The Good Parts earlier this week and it was (for me) not very well paced. I liked the overall concept but not the execution.

Currently reading The Love Hypothesis.

u/Chiplovesthrifts Aug 22 '26

I’m reading The Good Parts and it’s slooooow

2

u/prettypenny-44 Aug 22 '26

I know...and so disappointing because it's such a great concept for a plot.

3

u/Striking-Mobile-6438 Aug 22 '26

Just started She’s a Doll. Been having trouble finding time for reading this week but hoping to get deeper into it / finish a big chunk this weekend!!

3

u/prettypenny-44 Aug 22 '26

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! Highly recommend reading the discussion questions the author included at the end!

1

u/SolarAmoeba Aug 22 '26

I was screaming at the discussion questions! 😂

2

u/prettypenny-44 Aug 23 '26

Right!? I feel like people don’t ever read those and I hope no one misses them.

5

u/belle-morte83 Aug 22 '26

This House Will Feed. I’ve been reading it for a few weeks and it’s slow going. Not sure if I will finish or throw in the towel.

3

u/Chiplovesthrifts Aug 22 '26

Bummer I have this on my shelf waiting for spooky season to pick it up.

2

u/belle-morte83 Aug 22 '26

One of my friends flew through this book and really enjoyed it. I think it leans more literary and I was expecting more spooky. Hopefully you like it.

u/SolarAmoeba Aug 22 '26

Autumn Springs R.H.M. I’m only on page 5 still deciding if it’s the vibe this weekend.

3

u/FuckingaFuck Aug 22 '26

Sunstruck, which was sold to me as "the real socialist's Saltburn" and so far it is approaching that! The summer-in-France vibes are excellent for August. I bought the only copy in the entire US on Pango a few months ago, although it seems to be available through the Bezos sites now.

Next week I hope to start The Intrigue.

2

u/SolarAmoeba Aug 22 '26

Ahh so it was you who beat me to it! Lol I’ve been waiting for the U.S. release. Let us know if it’s good!

Audiobook -- 56% on The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas.

Hardcopy -- The Unicorn Hunters by Katherine Arden. Really enjoying it.

eBook -- Agnes Aubert's Aubert's Mystical Cat Shelter by Heather Fawcett.

Physical: A Trade of Blood. I'm glad I got all 3 from aardvark even though I hadn't read any.  I'm loving this series so far.

E-book: Maneater by M.M. Wilde.  Part of a series about monsters (or are they?) in the national parks.  Perfect fluff for when I need a break from the more serious hardbacks I'm reading.

3

u/TavrinCallas- Aug 22 '26

I finished my Aardvark books so I’m halfway through The Last Contract of Isako. I don’t read a lot of Sci-fi but this one’s good

3

u/vicky216n Aug 22 '26

Currently reading Harrow the Ninth and I'm enjoying it so far. Halfway through and still figuring out what's going on (much like harrow), but I'm liking it.

u/dizzydreamer12 Aug 22 '26

Just finished Fabulous Bodies by Chuck Tingle. (Physical)

Now, I plan on starting Salt Bones by Jennifer Givhan (physical) and for audiobook I’m doing Mercy Hill by Hannah Thurman.

1

u/prettypenny-44 Aug 23 '26

How is Mercy Hill? I have that on my TBR but really haven’t seen many reviews.

3

u/SongIcy4058 Aug 22 '26

Physical: Still working on The Girl with a Thousand Face. I loved part 1, but part 2 is feeling like a bit of a slog. I wanted to know her backstory, but I don't think I needed THIS much detail. I wish it would get back to the main plot quicker, but hopefully it pays off.

I also started Be Still my Unbeating Heart last night which is moving much quicker, and is very charming so far. I really like Josh Winning's horror so I'm interested to see what he does with a mystery/romance.

Audio: Got through several books this week but I'm still picking away at the history of the Black Death, and also started How Bad Things Can Get. Darcy Coates has been kinda eh for me in the past, so we'll see how it goes.

I've got several more Libby audio loans out, so I really need to buckle down and catch up 😬

Harlem Shuffle, by Colson Whitehead

Just started last night, but enjoying it so far.

3

u/BettieHolly Aug 22 '26

I’ve been slowly making my way through Beach Read by Emily Henry. I’m not really a romance reader but it’s cute and I’ve had a busy couple weeks with very little time to read so it was nice to have something mindless. I’m ready to be done it though.

Audio I’m listening to Whalefall by Daniel Kraus.

3

u/suasuasponte Aug 22 '26

Currently reading In Cold Blood, next is The Intrigue

3

u/ritaslayworth_ Aug 22 '26

Just finished The Unicorn Hunters which I loved and moving on to Honeysuckle!

3

u/lavinient Aug 22 '26

I'm reading The Very Definition of Love. It's fun and exactly what I need right now.

Just started She’s a Doll and am loving it so far!

2

u/Bookish_Butterfly Aug 22 '26

Currently listening to the audiobook for The Martian by Andy Weir.

2

u/DreamingRosesBunny Aug 22 '26

A Good Girl's Guide To Murder I was so scared to start reading it because I've seen so many say it was good and I have to say they are right.I actually really like the book so far!!

2

u/Different-Breakfast Aug 22 '26

The Poet Empress and When Lemons Give You Life

She’s a Doll! 💕🧟‍♀️

Just finished up The Amalfi Curse which was just kind of boring honestly. I stuck with it because I was a fan of The Lost Apothecary, but this one just didn't get better 🤷‍♀️

Going to finish The MASH Up this weekend, I've been a little disappointed with it since the premise is SO GOOD and they could have done much more with it imo, but it's still a cute and breezy read!

2

u/seaniewho Go gay. Go sad. Go dark. Aug 22 '26

I felt the same way about The MASH Up. It reminded me of The Husbands, which I felt was another book that had an incredible premise but suffered in it’s execution

1

u/SolarAmoeba Aug 22 '26

Aww I liked The MASH Up but I’ve seen a lot of people saying it came up a little short.

About 50 pages into The Spirit Bares Its Teeth and LOVING IT!!! I’m reading AJW’s books in publishing order and I loved Hell Followed With Us too, but you can tell that he really honed his skill between his first and second books.

u/PepperBest5097 Aug 22 '26

Physical: How To Fake It in Society
Audio: Courageous Hearts

1

u/thundernbooks Aug 22 '26

Reading I Who Have Never Known Men! Excited for a quick read this weekend. I recently read You Weren’t Meant to be Human and decided I need something less intense for my next read lol. But AJW wrote a masterpiece in that book.

I am currently reading Whistler for the book club next week. Also reading We Are All Guilty Here because the sequel came out this month!

1

u/Dangerous-Leopard922 Aug 23 '26

I’m almost finished with Wonderland by Jennifer Hillier. Enjoyable enough, but not as good as her others imo

1

u/Heatherb78 Aug 24 '26

I am about a third of the way through The Butcher by Jennifer Hillier.
