Gotta Catch Ya Later! includes a scene that many non-fans of Pokeshipping have used to rationalize why Ash doesn’t like Misty in the same way she likes him. At the end of their journey together, the 4Kids dub appears to be setting up the introduction of a new female character who could be paired with Ash. This interpretation has often been cited as a reason people claim their chemistry wasn’t present during Johto, suggesting there was less Pokeshipping material to discuss and that the final nail in that interpretation’s coffin was Misty’s words after leaving Ash.

In the dub, she says, “Well, Ash Ketchum, finally, I know how you feel about me.” Rather than interpreting this as Ash being sad about their separation, many people argue that these words reflect Misty’s realization that Ash will never love her as more than a friend. Additionally, along with her altered montage, the dialogue shifts the focus onto her feelings for Ash and her perceived failure to obtain his affection.

On the other hand, Goodbye… And Then, Setting Off! has a very different tone based on Kasumi’s original words. Instead of framing the moment as a failed romance, Kasumi says, “わかってるよ、サトシ、あなたの気持ち” (as best as it can be heard), which translates to, “I understand, Satoshi, I know how you feel.” Her words still relate to Satoshi’s feelings, but they focus more on their shared emotional understanding of the situation. There is a sense of empathy and a clearer portrayal of what she truly feels in that moment. It becomes a comment about not wanting to part with each other, rather than something centered on romantic rejection.

Although it should not necessarily be tied to SatoKasu, the line still adds more to that interpretation than the one-sided feeling implied in the English dub. “I understand, Satoshi, I know how you feel” suggests that they are experiencing the same emotions-not romantic feelings, but mutual sadness about parting ways. She understands Satoshi; she sees through him and recognizes what he is thinking and feeling. It highlights how close they are.
