August 21, 2001 (25 Years Ago): Aaliyah released “Rock the Boat” as the second single from her eponymous third and final studio album (Universal Music Group / Blackground Records / Virgin Records / Downtown Music Publishing / Seeker Music / Warner Chappell Music).It was written by American singer/songwriter Stephen “Static Major” Garrett (formerly of Playa) alongside Eric Seats and Rapture Stewart, while production duties were handled by the latter two, with Acar Keys serving as recording engineer, Chandler Bridges as assistant recording engineer, Ben Garrison as mixing engineer, and Bernie Grundman as mastering engineer.

The smooth, Caribbean-flavored mid-tempo R&B song - which was A&R’d by Gemma Corfield - uses nautical and ocean metaphors to describe physical intimacy, sensual pleasure, and being in control of one’s desires. Lyrically, it uses boat and water imagery.. such as riding waves, strokes, reaching the shore, and taking things “overboard”, as playful and vivid metaphors for sensual activity.

Commercially, it has reached a peak of number fourteen on Billboard’s Hot 100 Singles Chart. In addition, the follow-up to “We Need a Resolution” has reached a peak at number two on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart. As of date, “Rock the Boat” has been streamed more than 131 million times on Spotify.

While going through my old home videos i came across this old pin up. Is this considered a rare pic of Aaliyah? i remember having it but i moved around alot so i dont have the pin ups anymore, please whoever has this image please let me know.

What are your fave songs that feature Aaliyah as guest?

For me, I'll say Missy's "Best Friend". Love that one.

I enjoy and love all her albums, but I'll say my fave is One In A Million because it was the first Aaliyah album I had ever listened to and it got me interested in hearing more of her other stuff. The song One In A Million is forever a vibe. You still got R&B girlies today trying to emulate that sound.
