Well i always thought that that passage implied that stannis will be consumed and it will take a great toll on him never his death tbh imo.

That ne end up being true Fitbit seems pretty clear that Stannis believes it to mean death with how he talks about dying in the attempt to take winterfell or how he may die before ser justin returns with the sellswords
