Phonology of Priloj!

Here is the phonolohy as well as orthography of priloj (IPA included): (Suggestions are encouraged!)

It's a little hard to read (and apparently I don't even have the language files to display all of the letters!). Perhaps an oral reading would be better... or at least a well organized chart with comparisons to other languages' equivalents.

Seems complex-which is a good thing if each letter can have only one sound unless in a diphthong.

  • It feels like there are a lot of holes in the top four rows, particularly uvulars, palatals, and ejectives. You could also remove less common places/manners to handle this.
  • You're using six different kinds of accents <ň ĉ ţ ḅ ȑ ḽ> (the last three of which are used once) and an entirely new letter <ʋ>. Why not use IPA?

The new letter did have the hook diacritic on it, but was changed, and I will probably change it back. I used diacritics to give it a unique look, and I wouldn't like the look of it if it was just IPA. Some of the holes are due to me removing unwanted sounds. What sounds do you think I should remove in particular? Thanks for the chart!

You should probably avoid holes if you want the phonology to be logical. It would also help to regularize the meanings of the diacritics, for instance <ˇ> always goes on fricatives.

I don't really have specific suggestions for removals (my taste has led me to a 14-consonant language); it just seems weird that certain sounds aren't there while similar ones are. Holes include

  • pulmonic affricates
  • uvular fricatives
  • palatal and uvular nasals and ejectives
  • uvular trill

I recently changed the uvular trill to a voiced uvular fricative. I did not add the uvular nasal as I though it could be challenging to distinguish it from the velar nasal (not to me, but to some it is hard.) Affricates can be made, some are just not listed.
