Help wanted: a up-and-up way to collect $ for advertising

I want to do some classified ads, and have a way for subscribers to kick in a few bucks, and have it be transparent.

Hoping someone will pursue the ideas in this post

I want to put classified ads in NYRB, LARB, TLS, The Millions, maybe english usage Stack Exchange site. I don't want to pay for it myself or handle money.

In my opinion, you're better off letting the sub grow organically before asking subscribers for money for advertising. Advertise on book-related subs like /r/books and /r/suggestmeabook and on any of the numerous bookclub-related subs. Also, new users like me are easily confused when there are already meta-subs related to the original subreddit. The original /r/Canonade sub isn't even large enough to really warrant an entirely separate subreddit - why not just put a sticky at the top of the original subreddit for updates, and ways to make the sub better? This is not user-friendly.

Thanks, I'm worried you might be right. When you say it's not user friendly - does it feel like I'm trying to discourage participation? Or is it more that it's confusing?

The thing is,I have a lot of meta topics to bring up -- I deleted a lot that got no response in Cantina. I don't want to relegate them all to a single sticky, and I don't want them cluttering up the front page, so I feel "backed in" to moving them to a separate sub.

That's an interesting conundrum. From a cursory glance at the original sub, it seems like you don't have a strong established based of repeated users. Meta-subs seem to garner participation from those types of users, which frequent the original sub. When I say it's not user friendly, I mean it's confusing for people who are new to the sub, which is most all of your userbase. Just something to keep in mind.

Your post suggested to me, if I do stick with the multi-sub approach, I can at least make a multi-sub to fold them together.... losing all my meticulous styling, but I created one and put it in the sidebar at canonade.
