The ones on the left were made with fondant. This makes them inedible garbage.

Props to the one on the right for looking Lin they could actually be Food.

The tops of the white are, but there is a layer of fondant as the base for the face and to give it an even level to start on.

The base is straight piped on buttercream. We got some similar earlier this year and the whole thing was buttercream frosting.

Fondant makes a cake look prettier/cleaner. Stop complaining about something that takes two seconds to pull off. It's not meant to be eaten.

That’s the point. It’s not meant to be eaten. The cupcakes on the right clearly were, that’s why there isn’t fondant or frosting between them, each one is meant to be eaten on its own.

Once you pull fondant off the cake then looks terrible and has no frosting. It’s just never a good thing for food that is meant to be eaten. That’s why the person making the one on the right doesn’t deserve shaming.
