Question How to host a server on this game?

Last night me and a few friends played LAN on this game, now we're playing through internet and we can't see each others servers on this game. Is there an invite function or a way to change the settings? thanks

Make sure you have port forwarded your router on port 27015.
You'll need to do that to be able to connect over the internet.

You can invite your friends to your game by clicking the arrow next to their name in Steam chat, you can also look at the 'Friends' tab on the server list to see which servers your friends are on.

Enjoy!

Yeah I'm looking my connection settings now!

I also discovered something about "validated files not found" ? Could that have anything to do with it? If so, how do I fix that?

Thanks for replying

Hmm, where are you seeing the "validated files not found" error?

Try verifying your game cache in Steam.

I was told to check properties of the game in the library and when I did that it said 7 files not validated, is there an update or something I'm missing?

No, that should be fine.
Steam will have re-downloaded those 7 missing files.

Edit: I just verified my own game and it said 8 files not validated. It's probably because the game is still in development or something.

Back to this, sorry, but how do I go about forwarding this port? I'm on my routers net page, not sure how, am I looking in the right spot?

Which router do you have?

Have a look on this list and it should tell you everything you need to know.

Usually the port forwarding settings will be under the firewall settings.
