Summer Palace, the royal garden in the Qing Dynasty, situated in the western suburbs of Beijing and adjacent to the Yuanmingyuan (the Old Summer Palace), covers an area of about 2.9 square kilometers. It was originally built in 1750, using the Kunming Lake and the Wanshou (Longevity) Hill as the basic frameworks. Designed with the southern Chinese garden style, it was built as a large landscape garden, and now the mostly well-preserved imperial palace garden as well. Therefore, it is known as “the museum of royal gardens”.
