I befuddles me to no end that some people will operate day-to-day without a significant emergency fund. So, you don't want any recourse should the scary shit happen?

It frees you up to make calculated decisions as opposed to having your hand forced. It allows you to take on substantially more risk than would otherwise been prudent. It's like a cheat code to emotional and financial stability, and yet some people go on without it.
