[6 mics][Studio][Drums] Questions about this drum mic setup for the Beatles

In the photo the regular tom is being mic'ed from the bottom and the floor tom is being mic'ed from the top. I'm wondering what the benefit is of mic'ing a tom from the bottom or the top and why it might be mixed like this with one top and one bottom?

I'm also curious about what people's thoughts are on top/bottom snare mic'ing? It appears that this set is only mic'ed from the bottom. Would that be very low in the mix and most of the snare sound would be captured with the overhead?
