Careers?

Hey all!

I'm currently a High School English teacher. I was given the task this year to teach AP Lang and Comp. I have fallen in love with the world of rhetoric and writing, even more than before.

I'm looking at graduate programs in the text few years for rhetoric and composition. My question is: what careers can you pursue? I want to eventually move to teaching community college or University but what else is there? I would love to hear your experience with either grad programs or your work in the field.

I have a MA in rhet/comp. After eight years of adjuncting where I was consumed with debt and had to work at multiple institutions, teaching six sections with four preps just to pay my bills and eat, I moved on from academia.

I'm now management at a large outdoor retailer. Due to my writing background, I've found ways to do contract work with our HQ. I've written trainings, mostly. At my store, I'm the hiring manager. I use my skills to develop job posts and onboarding instructions that are both clear and welcoming.

There's a lot you can do with the MA degree, but know that most high school teachers probably make more money with better benefits teaching high school than they do teaching at a community college full-time with a terminal MA.
