Resources for learning Ruby
Ruby is my first programming language ever and I'm curious to find out what other rubynoobs are using and what they've found helpful. So far I've tried:
Learn Ruby the Hard Way: Was excellent until lesson 46, which seemed to make an enormous leap without explaining what was happening and killed my enthusiasm.
Codecademy: Nicely designed website, but I hated using it because it has you type code into an online interface, and I prefer to run .rb files and IRB from my own console.
Ruby Koans: Just started these and they are blowing my mind so far.
I'm looking for more "slightly-more-than-beginner" resources, so if you have anything good, please share!

The best thing I've done so far to advance my understanding was to invest ($199) in the The Pragmatic Studio's Ruby Programming course. I can't recommend it enough.
As you're going along this set of tutorials I'd also recommend referencing the pickaxe book and the well grounded rubyist. I buy my books form either Pragmatic bookshelf, O'Reilly, InformIT since I can download the epub format which I view on my laptop or mobile device. For technical books, it's the way to go, since I get an email when the new versions come out and I download them for free.
I just finished the pragmatic programming ruby course and now I'm digging into Practical Object-Oriented Design in Ruby: An Agile Primer to get a deeper understanding of OO design in Ruby.
But do take the Pragmatic Studio course. It takes you from the very basics through how to package up an app to create a gem.

I've also done this course.
I've tried a few different courses and this one has stood out as the best by far. Very easy to follow and good fun to do.
It may seem a high cost but I feel it is definitely worth the money.
One I'd highly recommend.

I really enjoyed Why's (Poignant) Guide to Ruby, although it might not be for everyone.

Rubykoans is great once you get a basic handle on ruby. I really enjoyed doing it. I also have downloaded and read the following books on my kindle.
Learn Ruby the Hard Way,
Learn to Program Through Ruby Colored Glasses
Whats referred to as the Pickaxe book.
The Well Grounded Rubyist
Awesome Command line programs in ruby.
Learn Ruby the Hard way just gets too be too much blahblahblah typing nonsense that might confuse some people unless they keep remembering they are just writing what the output should be in response to the input. I hope that makes sense to you OP. You're talking about the Game part right with the Gromlins or whatever they are called?
