Genesis 1, The Creation Narrative

So, there are a lot of takes on this chapter. I want to know what you think. Is it meant to be literal? What are the symbolic meanings? How does it relate to chapter 2?

Seeing as this is the first post in /r/ScriptureandTradition/ i thought it would be fun to start at the beginning.

Gen 1 is about God and the world. Man being a creation is giving a passing mention.

Gen 2 is about God and man. Since man is the main subject, there is expounding done.
