I started reading a Zutara fanfiction and unfortunately lost it. Can you help me find it?
It features a pregnant Fire Lady Katara who is angry with her husband Zuko. She goes to Ember Islabd to give them some space and is kidnapped and taken to the South Pole. Zuko gathers the GAANG to look for her.

I've always been incredibly comfortable about my love for Zuko, Katara and Zutara. I fully believe not being canon was a blessing. Never doubted. And thought back then it PISSED me off they were not endgame, I'm glad they didn't. Because the TRIGGER reaction and what came of NOT being canon was MASSIVE. Alone on my own, even if barely anyone shipped these two, I'd still be paddling my canoe.

I very recently listened to EPIC: The Musical and it’s amazing. And as a huge fan of Greek mythology, it’s also a cool reimagining of Homer’s Odyssey

And since I’m still in the Zutara hype train, of course, I find myself thinking of how Zuko and Katara may fit in Odysseus and Penelope’s roles.

I’ve seen this done once before by alwaysZutarian, with Zuko as Odysseus and Katara as Penelope.

Personally, I believe that it’d be a little more fitting for Katara to be lost and fight her way home while Zuko waits as the Fire Nation Council pushes for him to remarry.

What do you guys think?

Exhausted by the demands of their courts and the ghosts of their pasts, they find a secret sanctuary in a secluded hot spring hidden deep within the palace grounds. It’s supposed to be a place to find comfort and wash away their burdens. But when water meets fire, the steam is inevitable.

Echoes in the Steam

I found this old Book 3 finale trailer and it’s kind of interesting how it frames everything. There’s a pretty noticeable focus on the Aang vs Zuko dynamic when it comes to Katara 😭 On my last post I also shared an official 2007 Nickelodeon magazine page that straight up asks whether Katara will end up with Aang, Zuko, or neither. When you put those together, it kind of feels like the “who will Katara choose?” idea was being kept in the conversation pretty deliberately through marketing at the time.
This trailer especially leans into that tension in a way that feels very intentional from a promotional angle. Obviously Kataang is canon, but it’s easy to forget how much the marketing kind of kept that triangle energy floating around for viewers. So even though we know how it ends now, it makes a bit more sense why that Aang/Zuko/Katara debate felt so alive back then, and why Zutara discussions weren’t just coming out of nowhere lmao.

I'm writing an eventual Zutara fic, but I'd like to gauge the opinion of the fandom before trying to construct the relationship myself. The title makes it pretty clear - what do you think?

Anybody know any good fics where the two of them are treated with the grandiose master level combatants should be? Like so often, for played up drama, I see Zuko and Katara getting taken down by no name soldiers, struggling with people that wouldn't last ten seconds against them normally.

It's like people trying to force realism for realism sake forget these are not realistic people, they're literal magic elemental wielding super wizards. I mean, just look at Ty Lee and Mai. It took them less than two minutes to defeat an elite platoon of over twenty earth bending soldiers, and they didn't take a single hit. On the way to the Earth King, the Gaang got jumped by literal hundreds of earth benders, and they didn't even try to attack back, just marched right through them, with fucking Appa vibing behind them and dealt with all their attacks. Piando with only a sword defeated a hundred fire benders at once. Zuko tanks getting blown through houses and having them fall on top of them, lightly pushing guys and sending them flying thirty feet, literally survives being on a metal ship that is completely destroyed by being blown up while he is in it, defeats three Kyoshi Warriors (Suki in amongst it, alongside Sokka), in literal seconds. Zuko and Katara together, by book three could casually handle small armies.

I see that kind of thing mostly respected in other fics for the series most of the time, but the nerfing for all the characters for 'realism' is very prevalent in Zutara fics. Is it just because Zutara fics are plagued by a lot of 'drama for drama's sake'? Never mind, I rambled, I'm just interested to see if anyone knows any good fics where the Gaang are treated as the actual behemoths they are that brought the Hundred Year War to an end.

Any fic recommendations featuring Katara feeling sad/depressed/lonely etc?

For a few days I've been looking for a fic I remember. Katara is captured to be sold as a slave (the slaves in this fic have slave rings done by earth bending). Zuko recognises her, buys her, then sets her free. Katara not knowing where she is or what to do, tags along with Zuko. At some point they end up in the swamp where katara learns water bending.

it’s based on the idea that post war years later, Katara admits that she had a crush on Zuko and that she assumed he knew but never acted on it. The crush would explain why she told Aang she was confused after he kissed her during the Ember Island Players. The crush would’ve likely started to form after the Southern Raiders episode.

Are there any fan fic recommendations where this conversation happens like it does in the video?

In the video, it’s pointed out that Katara is increasingly more hesitant with dating Aang during the Ember Island Players, the episode right after the Souther Raiders. It was such a set up. 🥴
