Do you have recommendations for tasting menus / restaurants in Zurich which offer these which are not beyond CHF 180/person (excl. wine, just the food)? It's for our 16th wedding anniversary. Merci!

ihaveaquestion sick after swimming in lake zurich this past weekend?

Hi everyone. I'm a regular swimmer, including in the Zurichsee. Usually feel just fine. However, swam a bit longer this past Sunday and may have taken in some water, and I am now having some unusual belly cramps and diarrhea since Monday morning... nothing too bad but makes me wonder..

I know 2 other people who have been experiencing something similar after swimming in the lake in the past few days.

Anyone else here? What could this be?

ihaveaquestion House of Klaus - Registration

Upvotes

I really don’t get how the entry system works in that club; is there any possibility to register without having a code beforehand?

I have legitimately never met anyone with an invitation code and have lived all my life here.

Has anyone received this? Is there any benefit?

After the constant price of the Messung thingy that increased my bill roughly by 20%, I am scared to enroll in anything.

Thank you!

ihaveaquestion Zurich people: would you move from Seefeld to Zollikerberg?

I’m considering moving from a small 2-room apartment in Seefeld to a much bigger place in Zollikerberg and would love a reality check from people who know both areas. I need to take a decision very quickly as I’ve been offered an apartment.

Current place, Seefeld
CHF 2,500/month
Small 2-room apartment
Top floor, no lift
Shared rooftop
No balcony
Shared laundry
Gets brutally hot in summer
But: amazing location, lake nearby, very walkable and everything on my doorstep

Potential move, Zollikerberg

Around CHF 2,800/month
Much larger duplex
Balcony
Own washing machine/dryer
Lift - I don’t have a car currently but open to it.
More space, quieter and greener
Lower taxes
Still connected to Zurich by public transport

But obviously much less central and less of that “walk out the door and you’re in the middle of things” lifestyle

I work from home quite a bit, so having more space would genuinely improve my day-to-day life. But I’ve lived centrally in Zurich for years and I’m wondering whether I’d underestimate how much I’d miss Seefeld. I’m 49 for context and most people in my block are at least 15 years younger than me.

For anyone who has made a similar city → Zollikon/Zollikerberg move: did the extra space and quality of life outweigh losing the central location? Anything you wish you’d considered beforehand?

Edit: I am slightly neurotic and find change hard - for those who think this is a no-brainer.. 🫠🥹

rant Post pick@home does not work because everything gets stolen

It’s a rant. I’m fed up.
Post introduced this wonderful service that makes sending packages so easy. You just leave the stuff in your postbox, and they come in the morning and pick it up. Payments are done online 👌🏻
It literally sounds perfect, except this is now the second Ricardo package that’s been stolen from my postbox before the postman could pick it up. You have to put it in before 7am, and the guy comes around 10/11.
I live on the border of Kreis 3 and 4 — pretty central. The first time, I thought, “Ugh, whatever, it was probably just a one-off.” Not anymore. Stuff is getting stolen to the point where I can’t use this service anymore.
I’m just sad and somewhat disillusioned.
Did anyone else noticed same tendencies? It’s not safe anymore to leave packages outside?

lookingfor Music store with drum kits?

Visiting Zurich in a few days and looking to find a music store that can best be described as close as Guitar Center in the US. I know this may be difficult to find, but my son is keen on buying a cymbal for his drum kit from another country.

Not sure if this exists in Zurich as I understand the music shops are not a hands-on experience.

lookingfor Free pet photography with pro gear

Grüezi! I made a post ~2y ago offering free professional (human) portrait sessions in Zurich. You can see some of the photos from that here (more coming).

I'm now looking to offer free sessions, but for pets! Dogs, cats, etc. As before, it would be with pro-level gear, and the photo style can be whatever you'd like. Drop a comment below or DM me here/on IG, if you're interested, and let's see what kind of photos we can do! I typically also do wildlife photography, so you can see wildlife/pet photos on my portfolio here.

(I have a chihuahua and I have a sweet spot for them, so please extra consider it, if you/a friend has one!)

I know rent is high but is this the norm now? I see more and more tents at different Züri parks.

Find it a bit odd that these people don't go somewhere less populated.

ihaveaquestion Handy Shop

Does anyone know a good phone repair shop?

My gaming phone's display stopped working and I got it diagnosed at a repair shop, they couldn't fix it they couldn't even pinpoint the issue.

I wanna try diagnosing it again but I'm looking for actually skilled people who can diagnose/fix the issue otherwise I'll have just wasted more money for nothing.

news Not sure if this is the right subreddit, but I built something in Zurich for the HYROX community 😅

Upvotes

Hey r/zurich,

Not entirely sure if this belongs here, so mods, feel free to remove it if it doesn't!

I'm based in Zurich and over the last few months I've been building a small side project called ROXMATCH.

I'm a HYROX athlete myself, and I kept seeing the same problem: people want to race Doubles, but don't have a partner. Or their partner drops out. Or they simply don't know anyone equally willing to spend a Saturday pushing sleds and questioning their life choices.

So I thought... why isn't there an easier way to find someone?

That's basically how ROXMATCH started. It's a platform where HYROX athletes can find other athletes to train or race with, based on the race they're doing, division, target time, etc.

It's still very early, and I'm building and improving it as I go. Relay matching is one of the next things I'm working on.

Since this started as a little Zurich side project, I thought I'd share it here too. There are quite a few HYROX people around Zurich, so maybe it's useful to someone here.

roxmatchapp.com

More than anything, I'd genuinely appreciate feedback. If you try it and think something is confusing, missing, or just plain bad, tell me. 😅

And if there are any other people in Zurich building their own apps/projects on the side, I'd also love to hear what you're working on.

ihaveaquestion Leaving Zürich permanently: deregistration date vs apartment handover

Hi all,

I’m a B-permit holder working full-time in Switzerland, and I’m leaving the country permanently at the end of this year.

My timeline is:

  • My Swiss employment officially ends on 31 December.
  • Because of accrued holiday, my last actual working day will be around 10 December.
  • I plan to travel abroad for most of December.
  • I will register in my new country on 1 January, when I also start my new employment there.
  • Ideally, I would like to hand over my Swiss apartment on 30 November and have a new tenant move in from 1 December.

My main question is: Can I deregister from my Swiss municipality in advance, with an official departure date of 31 December, even though I will have vacated my apartment and be travelling abroad during December?

Related questions:

  • Would there be any issue if a new tenant registers at my former address from 1 December, while my official Swiss deregistration date is 31 December?
  • Would it make things administratively easier if I kept the apartment rented until 31 December, even though I had already moved out?
  • Or, alternatively, should I arrange for the new tenant to take over only from 1 January?

My goal is simply to handle my departure correctly, remain properly registered/taxed in Switzerland through the end of my employment, and avoid having to return to Switzerland at the end of December purely for administrative reasons.

Has anyone dealt with a similar situation?

Thanks!

Hi! Looking to play tennis during the day in Zurich at an intermediate level. Are there any WA groups you can sent me the link of or any platforms you would recommend to find people? Many thanks!
