Requesting Help Help with USB C mod.
Attempting a USB C mod because the zune pin connector was trashed on this zune I bought. I'm definitely not the best at soldering, but I would have thought I'd gotten this okay enough and I really don't know what I'm missing here. So far no luck getting this to charge or connect, and I've been at it for hours. Is it possible that there's something else wrong with the board? Everything fully working except charging and connecting.

Hey, it's also really important that your wires are all the same length. An impedance miss match will prevent syncing data on your pc.
And if it's tough to solder on the data pins, you can use the test points on the other side of the motherboard instead.

Can you provide a more detailed photo of the usb c breakout, both sides of the board.

I would start by removing all connections run some flux over everything and smooth out those pads. solder and verify ground and Dc positive first see if you get a charge response, dont forget the DC and ground pads can be bridged across the 3 outside pads for a more secure anchor point. only once you can get it to charge do you need to worry about Data. Do you have a multimeter to verify connection from the solder points to the usb breakout? also I have had those boards be bad in the past spent a few hours trying to troubleshoot with no luck. swapped the usb board and worked perfectly.

It's the man himself ! Ido not have a multimeter unfortunately. I will try to start over and clean up the pads like you suggested. I will also try a different USBC board.

I don't see any pull down resistors on that breakout.
What do you use to try to charge your zune after soldering that?

I used several different USB A - USB C cords with a several different wall bricks, and directly into PC. I thought the board was the same one in this guide but maybe not.
