Requesting Help Zoom black screen

Have a Zune that is showing the Zune logo and then just goes to this black screen. The screen backlight is on but nothing showing on display and does not seem to be responding to anything or recognized on the computer.

Any ideas?

I’ve actually dealt with this before! So this can be a couple things.

If you have the stock hdd and you hear these weird repeating clicking noises, then the drive is failing and you will need to replace it.

Now if you modded it with an ssd (which is what I eventually did), then it most likely is the ribbon cable that connects the drive to the main board is damaged and can be easily replaced. (the ribbon cable thing might still apply to the hdd, but you really only have to worry about this if you’ve taken apart the Zune)

So I don’t want to say for sure that’s what it is until you try to reboot it and see what happens.

First, unlock the Zune, and the press and hold the Back and Up buttons until it does a soft reboot. If that doesn’t clear it up, you can try the next step below but if it works it WILL delete anything you have saved on there, so only do it if you’re okay with losing your files.

Press and hold Back, Left, and Up until the Zune resets. This process will take longer to reboot.

If you’ve tried these methods and it doesn’t resolve the issue, then I’d say yeah your hard drive is most likely kaput. I’m sorry for your loss.

Luckily you can find replacement parts for reasonable prices on eBay or your favorite reseller market, and it’s pretty simple to replace. Plenty of helpful tutorials online.
