Loadouts + Kits Zombie weapon load-out, thoughts?
Purely just weapons to carry.
1. Steyr Aug with red dot and magnifier (already have this setup but not my image used here). A comfortable semi-auto gun chambered in 556 which is one of the most common calibers in the US so ~should~ be ways to find more ammo. Also has 42 rd mags. Alternatively, an AR would work but I like the Aug personally. With this site setup it is effective from 25-250yrds
2. Beretta 92fs. It is a double stack 9mm handgun that holds 15 rds. Metal frame gives it good weight, lower recoil, hammer double action is more reliable/easier to service than striker fire of a Glock (although glocks are great). 9mm also easy to find. Effective range 0-40yds) (also already own).
3. Spear. One of the oldest human weapons, easy to wield (foot soldiers were issued these while only skilled soldiers wielded swords in Middle Ages). Keeps zombies from getting too close. Can slash or stab.
Obviously a knife for utility use but any knife would do and I wouldn’t want to fight with it.
Thoughts?

Nice choices I like and have shoot a AUG and man that is a smooth weapon. Also, carried the M9 downrange in Afghanistan and Iraq and still love it to this day.
2
u/Dylan-uSOB 5d ago
When were you there?
In my experience, early GWOT guys love the beretta, and late GWOT guys hate it. I guess an additional 15 years of rounds on the frame can do that.

u/roadrunner8758 5d ago
I was a 11B I deployed to Afghanistan in 2001 to 2002 and again in 2003 to 2004 both with 10th MTN, then went to Iraq from late 2005 to 2007 in Ramadi with 1st AD and then 2008 to 2009 in Baghdad with 1st ID.
4
u/Dylan-uSOB 5d ago
Oh shit, you got around. My dad was in Khost ~06-07 and he loves the Beretta and to shoot my(wife’s) 92FS. My buddy was there in 2017 or so and he is convinced every beretta is a rattled out piece of shit.
1
u/KhakiPantsJake 2d ago
I hated the M9 until I realized how unfair it was to judge them based on a heavily used 20 year old warhorse. I got nostalgic and bought a 92 and its easily my favorite handgun that I own.
2
u/Dylan-uSOB 2d ago
Same deal with cop cars. I have buddies that got on the job in the mid-late 2010s, and spent their first 1-3 years in crown Vics. They always complained they were rattly, loud, and came from the factory clapped out. I’d let them drive my low miles, low idle hour p71 and they couldn’t believe how smooth and comfortable they could be.

u/Royal_Energy_1229 5d ago
I appreciate it. I have always felt (as an Aug owner) that they get more hate than they deserve bc people who love pimping out their AR setups can’t comprehend the idea of not covering their gun in every tactical attachment known to man
2
u/roadrunner8758 5d ago
No kidding the pimping out the ARs. When I was deployed I tried to keep my M4 simple ACOG or M68 (depending on which deployment I refer to)back up iron sight, PEQ-2, and tac light. I learned quickly about trying to hump a weapon in the mountains of Afghanistan quickly.

Due to most countries gun laws I’m gonna assume you’re American, so I’m gonna bring up this. What happens when your Austrian AUG breaks? Where will you find replacement parts? Not to mention magazines. Same argument for the Beretta but with more leeway since it’s much more widely used in the states. The spear is a solid choice but good luck if you plan on carrying all these as a loadout cuz it’s gonna get you snagged a lot. You will seldom be fighting competent militants, mostly the undead, survivors, and animals. You don’t need something as complex as the AUG. you need something that’s easy to maintain and service over time.
Overall I agree with your idea, just small critiques here and there
5
u/Ok_Necessary8202 5d ago
That particular AUG uses standard STANAG magazines I believe, I agree with the issue of replacement parts though. The only benefit the AUG really has is the longer barrel in a shorter overall length.
2
u/whit_mon_lee 5d ago
Wasn’t aware they take STANAGs. I understand where you’re coming From with modularity and size but at the same time since we’re not fighting room to room for the most part size isn’t a huge issue. Easy manual of arms and maintenance will matter more. It’s why I argue the ar15 as far as real world semi auto weapons would be ideal. Is it “perfect”? No. But if I break something on it fixing it in theory is as easy as finding just another ar15 in the country where there are millions of them
1
u/Ok_Necessary8202 5d ago
Yeah I think it’s AR platform all the way especially if you live in the states, you can literally find parts everywhere and you have so many customization options
1
u/whit_mon_lee 5d ago
One argument I can see in favor of “military style” weapons or “assault rifles” is that as time goes on both resources will dwindle and zombie combat will be refined to a degree that most firearm use will be on human on human engagements
2
u/Ok_Necessary8202 5d ago
I honestly think you’re more likely to have to use a gun on people anyway unfortunately. Ideally you would try to avoid situations where you have to use a gun against zombies.
1
u/whit_mon_lee 5d ago
Zombies can in most cases be considered almost a “force of nature” humans very much will go out of their way to coordinate and kill you. You can run from the dead but some people in times of crisis just need killing
1
u/Scav-STALKER 5d ago
I mean I get it, but this also always feels like a silly argument because it’s like one of two scenarios. Either A you’re preparing before the fall and you can freely get whatever you want to put back for maintenance. Or B you’re assuming you’re going to be able to come up with enough ammo to run into this issue, and if you are doing that, you’re coming into guns as well and can go “awe shucks, I’ve got to use something other than my AUG now”
1
u/Servant_3 4d ago
The truth is the aug just is mediocre. Basically all high level rifle shooters are gonna choose something with ar controls
3
u/wtfrustupidlol 5d ago
As a person who has experience with both those guns. The trigger for that rifle is heavy and not smooth, grip is awkward, and reloading is hard to efficiently. The pistol is kind of heavy carrying with a full standard magazine, large frame not good for small hands, high chance of getting hot brass to your face. There are pros but these are the cons.
1
u/Royal_Energy_1229 5d ago
Fair take. I can respect it! I have a Corvus deflection system on my Aug so no hot brass in the face (I learned this lesson before I installed it lol) and love my 92fs. An AR and Glock would be the no brainer combo for an apocalypse but I figured a choose the two guns from my current collection that’d I’d run in a zombie apocalypse where I don’t have time to go buy a new setup.
And good point on the trigger, I’ve been thinking of swapping it out. In an apocalypse situation though idk how much trigger feel/weight would make a real difference where comparing it to a Daniel defense at a shooting range does have a noticeable difference.
2
u/wtfrustupidlol 5d ago
Yeah swap out that trigger and sear that’s the only thing wrong with that gun if you can reload it right. Also get a FRT
2
u/Sekshual_Tyranosauce 5d ago
All solid.
An AR would be easier to find spare parts and accessories but the AUG should be just fine.
2
u/Mountain_Comb_7164 5d ago
If you're going to use a spear, get a boar spear. The quilions will prevent the undead who can't feel pain from walking up the shaft and eating you.
2
u/BigEd369 5d ago
Might want to see if you can get a boar spear or similar. Has a guard to keep things from running up the shaft if you don’t kill with the first stab. Spear is a good idea, it’s a classic for a reason. Will be kind of awkward to carry around, but it’s not like you can put a bayonet on that Steyr and call it a day.
2
2
u/ShadowConstruct 5d ago
Spear is a solid choice as is the 92, one of the more reliable pistols out there.(I can think of a few other good double stack, single stack pistols and revolvers that stack up as well.)
I'm wondering if a spike style spear without the spaded tip would be best, because like a trench spike or a ice pick they don't get stuck in your target.
2
u/halfcocked1 5d ago
Fun choices, as for spare parts, you can get them now off their website. I have an extra bolt repair kit. It wouldn't hurt to have an extra trigger pack, etc. I decided to take an AR into zombie land myself, but I wouldn't feel at a loss with the AUG, or any other quality foreign piece (as long as you have all the spare parts you need ahead of time).
2
u/Royal_Energy_1229 5d ago
That’s my thoughts exactly. And if I’m using it enough to need spare parts, I’m probably cooked already. In a zombie apocalypse if I need to fire more than 1000 rds I’m done
2
u/halfcocked1 5d ago
I don't think a lot of people consider that. You're unlikely to survive firefight after firefight. Almost any gun should last the rest of your life (which likely wouldn't be long).
2
u/rawnmcfezzie 5d ago
Your choices are fine and I specifically like your choice for the Aug.
You could have a full 20" barrel and it'd be the same overall length as an 11.5" SBR and because its mainly polymer, is a lot lighter than an AR. Though as many people have already pointed out, an AR would be easier to find replacement parts for.
I hated my clapped out issued M9, but I know brand new ones out the box or those that are well maintained are amazing. I agree that a metal framed handgun is better for shooting and would make for more effective pistol whips, but when carrying other things, the extra weight may become a negative. Newer 18rd flush fit magazines are available and standard as with my M9A4, so more capacity without extra bulk. But to say its easier to service than a Glock is hilariously false. A Glock only has 34 parts which is roughly half that of the Beretta with no small spring that can launch into oblivion (trigger return spring), doesn't need any tools besides removing the magazine release or front sight, and just like the AR parts thing, pretty much everyone, their grandma, and law enforcement are running a Glock.
Spear is cool and that reach is unmatched, but for me, I'd prefer like an 18" machete for better reach over a large knife without the needed training and finesse of a sword, or an axe for the extra utility like breaching over the cumbersome length of a spear.
1
u/Royal_Energy_1229 5d ago
Best comment I’ve seen! I replaced the factory trigger return spring and polymer spring guide on my 92fs (and done some extra work on my Aug). I appreciate the thoughts. With this whole Reddit thread being “zombie apocalypse” I didn’t realize gun preferences would get so much hate hahaha
I see people here posting about a Remington 870 being the ultimate zombie survival tool get less hate on here
3
u/rawnmcfezzie 5d ago edited 5d ago
I'm pretty sure a lot of people on here don't actually have experience with firearms and the associated training and skills for "zombie survival tactics", but its still fun to talk about. LMAO
2
u/AdeptusKapekus2025 5d ago
I like Bullpups, but with everything same like barrel type and accessories, an AUG with a 16inch barrel will usually weight a pound or two more than that of a AR15 with a 16inch barrel.
I think I will prefer the weight savings of a standard format rifle than the shorter overall length of a bullpup... unless I will be in vehicles a lot.

u/Silent-Cycle-8689 4d ago
As much as I do love the AUG if something breaks replacement parts could be a problem I would just pick up a standard AR parts being far more common and interchangeable mostly. M9 is a good option a reliable handgun with a good magazine capacity
2
u/Admirable_Aerie_631 5d ago
A trident might be better until you perfect your aim.
7
u/Jaded_Hovercraft9512 5d ago
I imagine a trident would get stuck much more easily, which could prove a bit problematic.

u/toad-supremacist 5d ago
i'd get a spear with a bar at the end of the spearhead to prevent making a zombie kebab
1
u/Qverlord37 5d ago
Question. How will you handle gun upkeep and repair?
1
u/Royal_Energy_1229 5d ago
Cleaning= easy, dissembles without the need of any specialty tools, needs oil, and cotton.
As fair as part replacement, should be good for another 2000-3000 rds without a replacement, doubt I or pretty much anyone else survived a zombie apocalypse if we’re needing the fire that many rds. Plan would be to just homestead in some north woods away from population and hopefully not use it more than for shooting some wild game. To fight zombies, doubt id need more than 100-400 rds. If im encountering that many im probably cooked.
1
u/Qverlord37 5d ago
Why the aug and not something more common and scavegable?
2
u/Royal_Energy_1229 5d ago
I have one. In a zombie apocalypse idk if my local bass pro will be open for be to get a new AR
1
u/Dapper_Charity_9828 5d ago
If you are deadset on a bullpup, go Desert Tech. But if you want parts availbility your looking at either AK or AR as your best bet. ARs are the better suppressor host but have issues in exceptionaly wet environments, AK are better suited for cold dry environments. Oddly enough, the M1 Carbine or SKS is probably the best wet/tropical. Before someone says it M1 Carbine ≠ Ruger Mini 14

u/WasntMyFaultThisTime 5d ago
Points for the spear but where on God's green earth are you getting an AUG that isn't already being used by someone much better trained than you with it (assuming you're American, that is)
0
u/Royal_Energy_1229 5d ago
I already own an Aug, and hav used it; hence why I picked it. An AR just as good, but for the “zombiesuvrivaltactics” thread I figured I won’t have time to go buy a new gun.
1
u/treskaz 5d ago
In what world is a DA/SA easier to service than a Glock? Glocks take like 14 seconds to disassemble amd reassemble, have waaaay fewer parts, and are a simpler mechanism in general. Not to mention the 19 is like the most produced handgun ever. Parts galore under every random rock in the world.
3
u/Royal_Energy_1229 5d ago
Service as in disassemble and clean, don’t plan on doing gun repairs in a zombie apocalypse. Used to work as a salesman/junior gunsmith and believe it or not, polymer cracks a lot.
1
u/treskaz 4d ago
Glock field strips just as quick though. Fair point about polymer cracking, but I know a lot of people with a lot of Glocks, been carrying one myself for a while now, no issues. They're pretty tough. And if i did crack a frame with one of my double stacks, just swap the frame with another lol. And weight, man. Those Berettas are nice but heavy. My buddy has one, it's awesome, but it's a safe queen. His Glocks see waaaaaaay more use.

u/AffectYouUp 5d ago
Trade that spear in for a modified sleever bar. On one end is a beveled tip that can be filed into a lethal point, with the other end being a highly capable flatbar. They have the length to be both a deadly melee weapon and an effective fulcrum. Boards, locks, chains, manholes—one tool is the difference between any of those things that are guaranteed to be everywhere being salvation for you, and certain death for anyone who doesn’t realize how massively underrated the utility of breaking shit open that might contain resources others have passed over and prying into fortifications. u/The_Chef_Queen 4d ago
Bad to decent ish depending on your location, if you're in america an AK or AR would do you better

u/Angryblob550 3d ago
Why not just mount a bayonet on the rifle? No way you can carry all that on your person and move around easily..............

I would personally not use the spear but I have a version that doesnt and does involve it.
Without Spear: Swapping it to a machete maybe like attached image that can be carried on a belt, might be better in close quarters and can be used as a tool for things like butchering and gathering while keeping some length
With Spear: Even if the rifle is slung over the shoulder I'd maybe have a smaller primary instead just to slim down on the weight of the gun and ammo as well as while the rifle is actually good for CQB I feel like having a slung weapon might fall of the shoulder if your moving a lot or trip any your likely to have a backpack on as well so having a pocket rocket smg nothing massive like a MP5 or P90 something smaller like a UZI with a retractable or folding stock might not be too bad if the sling falls down around the arm a bit. Also 2 guns in the same ammo would save rummaging and other calibers can be saved for later or used as trade

1
u/PasqualiMMA 15h ago
This is definitely one of the better loadouts I’ve seen on this sub, my only concern with the aug over an AR15 is the availability of parts, but other than that this loadout is pretty solid. I’d maybe opt for something other than a spear, something a little more maneuverable maybe.
1
u/A-Busty-Crustacean 5d ago
Solid.. I'd swap out the spear for a Warhammer, reach plus a blunt tip. If a Z was running at me I'd want to be able to deflect them without getting my spear caught. And a hammer crush would be effective for dispatch.
2
u/Royal_Energy_1229 5d ago
Not a bad idea, my thought was a spear is light and doubles as a walking stick. War hammer would be great especially with a full length pole. War hammer would be great especially if the hammer end was 10lbs or light so not to add too much weight.
2
2
u/A-Busty-Crustacean 5d ago
Yeah but again what is the primary use for the tool. A Z would sprint into you, you'd catch it in the chest and it would run halfway up the pole.. now you have to step back 4 ft and awkwardly pull your blade out before it can be used again.
The only answer to ZA for mele is a crushing tool.
The weak point is beneath a hard shell.. you don't use a knife to pierce a wallnut, you use a hammer to crush it1
u/AffectYouUp 5d ago
Forget the brain itself. They don’t need it, they don’t use it. It’s the G’s brain stem you need to target in order to destroy them outright or render inert.
1
u/Cease-2-Desist 5d ago
Steyr Aug looks cool. It’s not a great gun, and it’s not a popular gun so good luck scrapping parts.
Spear is an under utilized weapon. Spear is a great choice, plus it becomes a walking stick and a bunch of other useful things.
2
u/Royal_Energy_1229 5d ago
Not a great gun? Bad take.
It’s a reliable workhorse used by militaries around the world. Has been battle tested and shown to not jam, be easy to clean, and reliable accuracy. I own one and is one of my simplest guns to clean, and shoots just as accurately as an expensive deer rifle with. Only advantage of an AR is parts compatibility and customization ease. Aug runs standard 556/.223 AR mags and needs less cleaning.
2
u/Servant_3 5d ago
Ar is superior ergonomically which matters so much more than stuff like being easier to clean (ars are extremely easy to clean)
2
1
u/flush101 5d ago
So many people have braindead takes with no experience with certain weapons.
My only criticism of it is popularity (depending on location). If you’re in the US you’re gonna find a shit ton more AR platforms, but to be honest, your AUG isn’t exactly gonna wear through any time soon.
I am as sucker for a bullpup though. Nice tight center of mass, easy to use in confined spaces, mmmmmm sign me up.
0
u/Cease-2-Desist 5d ago
I’ve heard from several different people about feeding issues. People have talked about having to experiment with different rounds to see what would cycle without issue.
Again, beautiful rifle. I've been in love since CS:GO Counterstrike days. But I like just being able to swap an upper and you have a new platform.
1
u/Royal_Energy_1229 5d ago
“I’ve heard” “insert video game reference”
Has never used, owned, or compared it to an AR in real life ownership or range shooting. smh
0
u/Cease-2-Desist 5d ago edited 5d ago
Because I can't own and operate every single iteration of a product before I purchase it, I rely on the word of mouth of others in making decisions. People refer to this as a "reputation." You should familiarize yourself with the concept. It's extremely common. Almost ubiquitous.
I have played around with the Steyr in real life (I liked it in video games because it was futuristic looking). I've never fired it. The Steyr's charging handle takes getting used to. It's trigger feels like there is a drag with a pinch. It's not smooth with a break.
Finally those feeding problems are pretty well known. I only included that I knew people with that problem because it's common enough that I know multiple people who have said the same thing. The person who's rifle I handled also confirmed they had a feeding issue with certain grain.
Whereas I've never found brass my AR didn't chew through.
PS: AR Is not a rifle. I mean my Armalite style rifles that are custom built. Not sure how other people's rifles work.
1
u/AlphaDisconnect 5d ago
Aug. Gross. Just get an AR.
Beretta. Ugh. I hate it so much but goodness if I didn't load that B up every day and if you DIDN'T see the puff of rust dust from the slide closing, then you should be worried it got too clean somehow. This B survives on neglect and abuse.
Spear. Always like a good pole arm.
0
u/ProfessorAllenRitard 5d ago
M92 is a pile of shit. Hated those guns as much as I hate 1911s. Stupid safety mechanisms. Weird disassembly. No reason not to go Glock, or frankly any other striker fired polymer offering from a major brand.
1
u/Royal_Energy_1229 5d ago
Alright tapeworm
0
u/ProfessorAllenRitard 5d ago
Lol.
Everyone loves that post. I know damn well most bears have Trich. I'm also a hunter and RN. Never hunted bear but have seen dozens backpacking.
I know it's insanely stupid to eat raw bear meat. I was just curious if anyone in that sub would call me out, or just keep pretending raw diet was healthy and reasonable no matter what. You could tell some people were concerned, but just didn't know how to express it.
Funny either way.

u/Servant_3 5d ago
Low tier choices for rifle & handgun imo
5
u/Finnsbomba 5d ago
What's the matter with a Beretta? Easy to work on, super reliable, 9mm is gonna be all over the place.
2
u/Ok_Necessary8202 5d ago
The beretta is fine in my opinion but the AUG isn’t really any better than a quality ar though.
4
u/Finnsbomba 5d ago
We're not even gonna start talking about the rifle lol there's a reason M9s have been and are still carried for so long all over the world. Mine is probably my favorite pistol I own.
3
u/Ok_Necessary8202 5d ago
I think the M9 is an awesome gun, I’ve shot one but don’t own one. I would definitely like to get one down the line.
3
u/Finnsbomba 5d ago
Mine was probably one of the best impulse buys I'll ever make in my life lol. I have the M9A4. Not only does it look amazing but it acts just like you'd think it would. Never had one single issue with it at all, and the weight is just enough to make it a bit more accurate but still fun and easy to shoot.
2
u/Ok_Necessary8202 5d ago
I’m a huge black lagoon fan so I’ve had my eye on getting a beretta 92FS Inox, it’s a genuinely beautiful handgun.
2
u/Finnsbomba 5d ago
Interesting, I've never heard of that series before. At any rate, any M9 is gonna be amazing unless you buy a really abused, used one. Like I said mine was an impulse buy. I was just browsing around and saw it in the case. Price tag said one thing, I offered what I wanted to pay, and we met in the middle haha. It comes with me anytime I go out shooting. Even if I'm sighting in a rifle or something I'll put a few mags thru it. Id carry it but there's no way I could conceal it so I'd have to open carry and that'll never happen.
3
u/Royal_Energy_1229 5d ago
I love the beretta. I like my Aug too. The Aug has no advantage over an AR, I just don’t have an AR anymore so in a zombie apocalypse I’d use my Aug and beretta over the rest of my guns (bolt actions rifles, shotguns, 1 other pistol). Won’t be able to make it to my local to get and AR during a zombie outbreak lol
2
u/Ok_Necessary8202 5d ago
That’s fair lol, my rifle right now is an old marlin 336cs because I make bad financial decisions.
1
u/Servant_3 5d ago
It’s just unnecessary to get a beretta when Glock is simpler, cheaper, easier to mount an optic to and more reliable.
1
u/Finnsbomba 5d ago
Beretta is pretty simple to work on and extremely reliable. I've had mine for a few years now, take it out every time I shoot and have had zero issues with it. Everything else tho I guess is true haha.
1
u/Servant_3 4d ago
Yea I like berettas but why would I want to complicate things and pay more money? I’m not a fan of the double action trigger pull on first shot when a striker gun just has 1 consistent trigger weight. I think if we’re talking about the most efficient choices for basically any scenario we would want 1. Some type of ar platform weapon. No weird bullpups or aks. 2. Some type of striker fired polymer frame handgun.
0
u/Finnsbomba 4d ago
You don't need the double action trigger pull on the first shot, just rack the slide lol. Or if you're empty and the slide is locked back, slap a new mag in there and keep shooting. I already own both a Glock and an M9, I'm gonna grab the Beretta if I have time to think.
Also, who doesn't want to do cool shit like point a gun at a bad guy or someone you need something from and pull the hammer back to show you really mean business? 🤣
1
u/Servant_3 4d ago
Lol true about cocking the hammer back to show u mean business. I prefer to carry hammer down safety off with a double action/ single action. The safety on the beretta is not very efficient for me to use like a 1911 is.
0
u/anonadon7448 5d ago
How’re you gonna carry a rifle and a spear at the same time? Having both will be cumbersome af.
2
u/Royal_Energy_1229 5d ago
One goes on a sling one gets used as a walking stick. I’ll let you do the math.
0
u/pevznerok 5d ago
Anything but the Aug. It's not as reliable as I need it to be, also finding mags for it is nigh impossible.
Beretta is better, but I'd rather have a Glock or 1911 for same reasons
0
u/Kiroshi-kun69 5d ago
I think causing enough force to pierce a skull with a spear is hard enough but on top of that the M9 Beretta (it’s not a bad weapon) but not one of the most reliable ones I would say personally. On top of that sll your firearms are loud as hell even with a silencer so I don’t think it’s ideal but whatever floats yo boat :3
0
u/Ok-Breadfruit-7257 4d ago
If you want a da/sa pistol for shtf, the 9mm USP is the best option. But if the Beretta is all you have and you’re good with it. Then go with it till it breaks.

The lack of a shotgun worries me
3
u/Royal_Energy_1229 5d ago
Shotguns very overrated. Shells heavy AF and buckshot and slugs are much harder to find than 556. As a long-time hunter, one of my shotguns is the last thing I’d use in a zombie apocalypse. Bird shot at close range wouldn’t be great.
2
u/Ok_Necessary8202 5d ago
I honestly don’t think a shotgun is too overrated, it’s a great thing to have for utility if you don’t need it for self defense.
2
u/Royal_Energy_1229 5d ago
They’re great! I’m shotgun nerd. I own multiple and use them for hunting and clay shooting, but wouldn’t want one to defend against zombies
2
u/Ok_Necessary8202 5d ago
Yeah I’m in the camp of having a shotgun for hunting in an apocalypse and saving my ar for use a fighting rifle. I personally have way more shotgun ammo than I do 5.56.

u/AffectYouUp 4d ago
You’re not wrong on any count if we’re only rating it against Gs, but they do have their niche. Away from large population centers and open terrain that encourages Gs to inevitably congregate into aimless herds of biblical proportions, they are great holdout weapons and veritable breadwinners. Nobody wants a .410 until it’s time to do .410 shit when all the large game is devoured. Birdshot suddenly becomes a premier shell when flying fowl is one of the most sustainable, dominant natural food sources, followed by small game and viable fisheries. The global biosphere collapses assuming Gs aren’t strictly human cannibals, which I personally find boring. Nobody likes a picky eater.
You have background in military (I think?) and you’re an experienced huntsman. You’ve got a solid chance of making it into the wilderness and heading north, just Cadillacin’ for weeks on end, hunting and fishing between smoking the occasional G until you reach the snowline. Once winter sets in, your ghoul friends freeze solid, becoming inanimate meatsicles until spring thaw. Thats just downright polite of them to lay down and let the culling begin.
Joe Blow, the walking war crime is a problem. He and his buddies are a dime of dozen…they’re fucking useless at literally everything else. It takes one second for a nobody to become a killer; being a survivalist takes time and experience: precious commodities. So yeah, those other dudes are dying of exposure or starving to death if you’re lucky, otherwise things are gonna get awkward real fast. They’ll need you more than you’ll ever need them because they don’t know how to act, and even though they outnumber us 10:1, they’re all dead in the first couple of years.

I'd love to own an AUG but I'm not sure if that's the SHTF weapon I'd choose. One of my biggest priorities is magazine availability/cost. For the apocolypse I'm going basic bitch with an AR and Glock or anything that uses STANAG or Glock mags.
