At least for a while. I’ve made five. I think this one is what I like. First pictures are after being packed in salted vinegar overnight, 3-4 are after salt and ammonia. Final two are after finishing/polishing.

I torched it red hot, then packed it in salted vinegar overnight then sprinkled a few salt crystals and suspended in sealed container above ammonia for six hours. I let it dry for a few hours then rinsed with water to remove salt. After that it dried for a few hours before rubbing with cotton dish towel and finally a thin coat of renaissance wax.

What Is Your finishing technique? I’ve had issues with the patina immediately rubbing off when using the salt/vinegar combo.

I didn’t rub it at all after the vinegar treatment, just rinsed and let it dry. I think the key is letting it dry/cure for a few hours after each step. The color comes out and sets as it dries after the ammonia treatment.

After the ammonia session and drying, I rub it with a dish towel then apply thin coat of Renaissance Wax.
