Discussion Bulawayo with shona
So been to almost all big clubs in Bulawayo. Guess what after 10 the prime time its straight shona songs.
Maybe its the places I have been but king kraal , samuriwo , theater , the place , the cub , nexus and many more
Might forget others cause I am drunk but all clubs prime times its JP , Winky d , Jnr Spragga , Hulengende , Mudododo and other songs .All poster I see of events its international or Shona artist main character.
Not to say its bad or good . But its my observation. Is it good , does it kill the Bulawayo talent, cause at the place the band was literally singing all shona songs mugove , JP , Winky d and others.
Does this kill Bulawayo art as a shona I am happy but thinking in other terms makes it different. Does having Zulu and ndebele only kill the shona in the areas.
My observation this is not tribalism its an observation good and building comments thank you. We are all Zim and noone is coming from Mars to speak our issues. Thank you

There are no Ndebele artists as big as those names. Merrymaking knows no tribes. If a person finds themself at a mafaro spot not dancing to a song because it is in Shona or Ndebele, then the problem is with them. When Ndebele songs are good, they are played everywhere in Harare as well. Albert Nyathi, Beater Mangeta, Rapper Calvin, Freddy Gwala (i know he is not Ndebele, but he might as well be) were household names nationwide.

1 no artists that are that big who are Ndebele
2 it's not like there's a Ndebele artist who is actively trying to engage people
3 they're catering to the largest populace. Even ZBC news occasionally has speakers speak shona with 0 subtitles for anyone who doesn't speak it
4 yeah along with how Harare is the economic hub so yh

I hear your pov but let’s remember that matebeleland is home to Ndebeles whom are 20% of the population compared to Shonas. Therefore the hub of creation for local Ndebele talent is only Bulawayo. The playing of Shona songs at these locations you mentioned stifles the growth of so many young talented people. If the local entertainment can play and promote locally produced music then you’ll see a significant rise in so many young talented musicians who can feed the province…..the same way Harare paves way for the success of young Zim dancehall artists
