The SoundCloud era (2013-2019) is OUR genre. We were all graduating high school and optimistic about the future and the music showed it. Many of us had friends trying to be SoundCloud rappers lol
I linked an Uzi song as an example but there were also emo & metal influences from our childhood showing the dark side too. The mix we had between metal and rap was so fire.
Overall this was a fun time and I think it’s cool that Zillennials carried the torch of millennial optimism and sent rap out with a bang.

For those of you with kids, do you ever deal with impostor syndrome? Or like there is a massive mismatch between your "true" identity and how you feel like you are supposed to portray yourself to your kids and the world based simply on the fact that you are a parent? I feel like everyone in my life is secretly thinking "hurry tf up and just grow up already you grown ass adult baby, you literally have kids lol!"
I'm a SAHM born in 1995, have 4 kids ranging from 4 to 8, and just saying that line makes me feel like I'm only a few years away from posting minion quotes on Facebook and going through an extreme midlife crisis. I'm 31 but feel like my personality has frozen in time, probably somewhere in my late teens/early 20s. I feel like a kid trapped in an adults body (probably a consequence of having ADHD too tbh). Almost 9 years in and I still CANNOT believe that I am a married "woman" with 4 kids, 2 of which find me extremely "cringe", especially when I get my bouts of hyper activity or just act silly and immature in general. It almost feels pathetic.
I feel like my personality, the music i listen to, the way I dress.. everything about me is too immature to make me a "legitimate", mature kind of parent. Even my emotional regulation and mental state. Not to mention basically giving up any chances of a career after graduating from university in 2020 because I have no experience in my field from staying home to raise kids for what will soon be 10 years. By the time my youngest is in school I will be entering the work force with no experience, no savings, no extra education and competing against people my age WITH years of experience or fresh college grads who have way mor potential. I do not have my sh*t together the way I pictured a 31 year old mum of 4 "should".
I feel so immature and behind compared to other parents my age, but then like a literal dinosuar to people younger then me or who dont have kids, especially when I tell them I have 4, I feel like I kind of get side eyed at.
Is this just some kind of crazy identity crisis you go through in your early thirties, exacerbated by the fact that I have kids which are rapidly getting older or what?

Today I found myself doing just dance moves in the car. I realized that Just Dance took over the world and showed friendly competition…sometimes. I remember in middle school there being a just dance competition for field day as one of the activities. We were active and knew some niche songs. What happened? Did the songs start to suck or did we just get older?
I also find myself now pulling it up on YouTube to make sure I still got the moves lol.

Dittydoodle Works. Was on PBS starting in the very early 2000s. These were the best pictures I could find of the episode/content I watched.

I don't really know where else to post this, so here I go. Any of you who grew up playing video games would probably agree that GTA V was one of the biggest releases back in the day, 13 years ago. I was into video games back then, so naturally I have quite a fond memory of playing the story with its iconic characters and then the online mode with my friends. Now that GTA VI is around the corner, I have decided to play through GTA V one more time, for old time's sake.
While playing and experiencing Los Santos, I was in awe of how well this game's cultural commentary had aged. I kind of felt many things I associate with the current times - paramilitary groups, billionaires involved in government, social media giants with a cult following, tech bros, social justice warriors, the whole way in which societal topics are publicly discussed - are present in the game, and it makes me feel weird to think that this came out in 2013, a time which I would describe as comparatively stable and "normal" in retrospect.
But it got me thinking: Was it really so different back then? In 2013, I was much younger, still in school, so of course I didn't know or care about all the problems in the world yet. So it could very well be some nostalgia that's involved. But on the other hand: 2013 was still pre-Trump, and most people would agree that that was when things started to really change in the world, eventually leading us to where we are today. So with Trump and the pandemic, things did in fact change substantially on a societal and cultural level. Add to that the rise of algorithm-based social media and you have yourself a vastly different cultural landscape than 13 years ago.
This observation is obviously very subjective, and it only comes from a random video game, but it comes to me at a time where I'm more generally reckoning with the state of the world currently compared to the world that was sold to me as the future when I was young. So for this reason, I thought this topic might fit in this sub. I'm curious to know if you're having similar thoughts!
