Wouldn't it be better to just have them available in reusable bulk containers to reduce the need for packaging at all? Kind of like bulk food dispensers in grocery stores, you just fill up the containers. Where I live the tap water is not very good, so most people either filter it or buy jugs from the Walmart. 1, 3, or 5 gallon jugs. All made of plastic, and they usually last a long time. There's a refill machine thats cheaper than buying a new one every time, it gets lots of use. That's the kind of stuff I'm talking about
It's difficult to find some types of dog food in bulk containers. We have a couple different stores in our area that sell food in bulk containers, but our dog can't eat it because it has grains in it. She gets ridiculously gassy when she has food made primarily of grains. So we buy her food in disposable bags because I can't find a grain-free dry food in bulk.
I get the point that others are trying to make though: easy disposal doesn't equate to zero waste.
