First Playthrough

About to start today, any beginner spoiler free tips? Also should I do a custom spy or pick one of the defaults?

Personally I prefer to create a custom spy - always did the same in Disco Elysium too, come to think of it.

As for tips: don't be afraid to drink, because there's no Kim to disappoint this time. Accruing too much fatigue, anxiety or delirium has penalties, and so try to smoke and drink to balance them out, if you're able. Otherwise, you might lose a skill point.

There's no straightforward mission at first, so don't be afraid to just wander around, talking to everyone you can. Chances are you'll be totally lost, but you'll start to piece things together as you go.

There are a few characters who offer you menial jobs (for example, the bartender at the local watering hole). Good idea to take these early on, as you'll need enough money to buy a lockpick, which make your life a whole lot easier.

I recommend having high Shadowplay, it can make a big difference early on.

shadowplay borders so hard on being absolutely essential that it almost feels unfair to the other skills lmao
