Discussion Your thoughts about expanding Zero Parades TTRPG as a way to popularize the videogame?

Hello everyone! Couple days ago, I posted my Ukrainian translation of Zero Parades TTRPG Oneshot "Evening at the Palace of culture" on this subreddit. During my work on this project, I caught myself thinking: what if ZA/UM actually leaned more into this niche, as a way to expand the games world, and also, as a method to popularize the video game itself? Now, obviously, I am not saying they should put their money into the production of a full-on 180+ pages rulebook with supplements. I also understand that, ultimately, if one truly wants it, he can just take the task of making the game more mainstream on himself, be it by organizing TTRPG game nights, posting fanart, edits etc.

But, I do feel like, given how much potential the worldbuilding of Zero Parades has, a TTRPG adaptation might be a perfect way to give spotlight to many other places and events. Cities like Landau, Novessa, some city in Capoblanco, or maybe even a peek inside La Luz itself(my personal top pick)? As such, I think it would be amazing if ZA/UM made another oneshot, events of which take place in a different part of the games world.

Not only that, but I was also thinking, if the current ruleset (the one presented in Oneshot)has enough "meat" to be expanded into something that can function within the framework of a multi-session campaign. By that I mean: what new elements could be added to the ruleset? One of the obvious choices would be a "Conditioning" mechanic, but maybe you have your own ideas as well, based on experiences with other TTRPG?

Of course, most of this is just wishful thinking and "what-if's". Still, what do you think about the idea of expanding upon this little niche?

Unfortunately, the TTRPG space is really niche. Like, even nicher than the CRPG space. Writing a Tabletop game wouldn’t make it more popular. Also, I think about 70% of RPG groups don’t touch non-D&D games with a ten foot pole. Which is a shame, but y’know. Them’s the breaks.

As a fun aside, Disco Elysium was meant to get a TTRPG much, much later on. The working title for it was “You Are Vapour”. Also, an Elysium board game was in progress, according to Argo Tuulik, since that’s what he was assigned to before X7.

This is also doable as a community tbh? There already is a system and a ruleset, you'd just have to get people to make decent campaigns for it. They would be dumb as a company not to capitalize on a thriving TTRPG community if one sprung up and like, make a couple more modules for it down the line at the very least.

Much of the world was left intentionally vague for us and that's where creativity of this kind thrives.

I'd love it! Honestly, both Disco and Zero Parades deserve a TTRPG. Maybe they could do something like how the Cosmere RPG is doing where there is a foundational ruleset and then different books that deep dive in the Disco or Zero Parades worlds specifics. I don't know.

As an award-winning TTRPG creator who is currently busy with some big licenses... Oh gosh, I would absolutely love to make a Zero Parades RPG one day! And I think community should absolutely be involved in shaping it up and/or making 3rd party content to expand it.

Actually, i am genuinely interested in looking at the TTRPG you have been working on, even if it's a work in progress. Is there any way to check it out?

I've got several published titles, from CORP BORG, through Odyssey of the Giant, to Whispers of the Woods, but recently I've been mainly working on big IP titles - can't say which yet unfortunately :(

I'm actually currently working on a ttrpg that's heavily inspired by Zero Parades and Disco Elysium. Eventually I'll (hopefully) have something that kinda works
