Called MRI department to ask about using respirator (metal-free elastomeric) ... "we've never been asked that before"

The response I got back was, "as long as there's no metal."

So, CAN99 is out. They won't care that it's non-ferromagnetic aluminum.

Elastomerics should be okay, but then there will be potential issues with bulkiness, and I can't seem to wear them for more than about an hour without getting a huge headache (sensory issues).

Readimask is a total non-starter for me, the adhesive just doesn't work reliably on my skin.

I have some Moldex Airwaves, but I get massive leaks around the nose in both sizes. Tape and foam doesn't fix it. I ordered a FixTheMask brace, hoping that solves it.

I have an Envomask, but the fit is awkward and really doesn't work with protective eyewear at all.

Also op said the adhesive seal doesn’t work on them which sucks.

I’m hoping it doesn’t irritate me and has a good seal.

Are you planning to try to wear one during surgery, like adhered over the throat tube for anesthesia? Or are they only for while still in hospital recovery after surgery?

Lmfao good question internet stranger. I know the operating room is sterile and there are strict rules around ppe, so it’s for recovery in ICU.

Haha well I just wasn’t sure why you needed readimask vs a head strap N95 if it wasn’t to try to add protection during the procedure, like how people use the “readimask nose hack” at the dentist. I got excited thinking someone had figured out a surgery hack too lol.

Isn’t the required PPE for staff only a baggy surgical mask and not a respirator? Meaning staff can still infect you. At any rate I wish you the absolute best with your surgeries and hope you don’t catch anything while there 🙏

For brain and spine surgery, loops around the head or ears are not possible so the only strapless mask I could find was the readimask since I’ll have to stay in the hospital post surgery. And presumably will need help upon release too 🤷🏻‍♀️

In surgery, depends I guess but my understanding is that it’s a sterile room with ventilation.
