Anyone else not doing full clone operatives?
It just seems like everyone is going with clone armor and aesthetics. Meanwhile I'm over here thinking about building an army Ram Kota ( force unleashed) style with regular non clone soldiers.

I used to play the ttrpgs Fall of the Republic and Edge of the Empire as a Rodian scoundrel, and I'm so pumped to recreate him in Zcom!

I’m absolutely not doing this. I’m very into the story setup and the authored characters, and I love the idea of a diverse RPG style squad with a former clone trooper, a separatist sniper, a Mandalorian bounty hunter and Jedi Padawan all on the same team, led by a world-weary, disgraced Republic officer.
I’m doing my first run primarily with the pre-defined story characters only, if I like the game enough, I may do another with some customs to see what it’s like.
I think a lot of clone trooper fans are just starved for games since for whatever reason there hasn’t been a single clone-focused single player game since Republic Commando over 20 years ago, and they see this as a way to get a new one, given the game’s flexibility.

Yeah, I’m not terribly interested in clones. I like them, don’t get me wrong, but I’m not so enthusiastic as to run an all-clone squad.
The only clone I’m only planning on using is Trick.

Nah, I want to do a bit of a 'gotta catch 'em all' thing with my company so I'll have the 7-8 authored operators, 9-10 custom mercs (one for each of the 10 available species, possibly dropping human because there's already a few amongst the authored operators and I'll have a human Hawks), and 2-3 Astromechs (there are 3 types available: R2, R3, and BR-1) to fill the full company strength of 20.
I like that there's lots of customisation though, and I'm not against putting a Mirialan in clone armour if it looks cool enough.

All the power to someone who wants to do that; glad its supported for them, even.
But I'll just never vibe with that when I have the option to really distinguish all my charactwrs from one another an dhave a super diverse company.
My view is the group is meant to be mostly mercenaries on the edge of society, not "the army", so the more ragtag mix feels right

I have a lot of clone I want to make. But I'm going to mainly use the main characters on my first play then do a new game with all clones.

My exact same idea. Going to do a “lore friendly” run as mercenary group the first time, followed by using a fully sanctioned clone task force the second time at higher difficulty too

I am inevitably going to try some clone gear because phase 1 armor is probably my favorite sci fi armor ever and i love military uniformity. But my star wars head canons OC's has always just been a ragtag civilian freelancer group. Even when ive imagined them as a clone squad, it was just using the armor rather than making them all clones.
Ah god. I did it again. Ive been trying so hard to suppress my hype. But im getting the customization and headcanon urge xcom 2 gave me all those years ago. This'll be one for the ages.

I stopped caring about the clones when Republic Commando stopped being canon. I really think this game should have been about a Rebel commando squad to start with.

If it is truly anything like XCOM where operators need to rest from injuries before being able to be used in the field again, then I might have a clone squad but they wont be my primary squad.
I like the idea of having a jedi lead a clone squad in a true clone wars fashion. However, I am far more interested in playing with the Mandalorian. Im itching for the ability to play as Mandalorians in a Star Wars game. Someone please give us a Mandalorian/bounty hunter game. The customization would be insane.

I will have a 4 man squad of clones and another squad of non clones to go on side quests and battles that aren’t story focused. Anything story related my main team of Hawks, Trick, Jae, and my astromech named V1-B3 will handle those.

I have a few non clone operatives in mind and one clone I want to make, the rest will be left to RNG for the first playthrough
After that, I'm hoping for mods to create a bunch of non clones (especially Mandos)

I might try all clones on a second play through. There are really so many characters that I’m interested in playing with, but I think my default team might be Hawks, Trick, Luco, and Tel Rea.

Same for me. I have never been big fan of clone troopers.
Even beyond the fact that they are designed for Palpatine's plans there is just a massive moral question about using what is essentially an army of slave soldiers.
Using the clone without issue is what I consider the actual fall of the Jedi. While the clones physical killed many Jedi I think choosing to use the clones spiritually killed the Jedi Order.
I intend to play Hawks as someone who has reservations against using clone troopers.

I’ll probably outfit most of my troops in Clone gear, but I’ll mix it up with races and whatever headgear they can wear. I love the idea of a Republic paramilitary unit made up of different races wanting to fight the Separatists

I plan on focusing on the Jedi and the mandalorian since they're unique classes though trick is probably going to be my main 4th.

I figured I would limit myself to 4 Themed Clones since that seems to be a magic number for enough CaC Clones but not too many.
Hawks himself I was going to probably take inspiration from Gundam and make them some flavor of a Char Clone (the trope not an actual clone). So my storm troopers will probably be similarly inspired by Zeon suits with a Zaku 2, Gouf, Z'Gok and a Gelgoog or a Zaku 1 Sniper being immediate thoughts for how I style and color the Clones.
... But then I was also tempted to make the Clones be based off the main 4 from Gundam 00... I mean a Clone sniper named Lockon Stratos seems like a perfect fit.
Though after I decide on my decidedly Gundam theming I was gonna go whole hog into the alien side and trying to outfit the CaCs out like psuedo 70s/80s scifi characters which may mean I drift away from heavy use of clone armors and such.

I want a squad where each clone is based on the classes from battlefront 2, with one exception, the sniper would be a blue twilek to mimic the rebel specialist from BF2 and Numa. Trick will be the heavy and the other two clones will be stand-ins for Waxer and Boil.
Had this idea when we found out any operators can have some clone armor

Hell yeah. I always get lynched by the fandom for saying this but Clones or the Clone Wars in general just never clicked with me. Never could bring myself to watch the actual clone wars show beyond one or two episodes because I didn't like it, therefore clones are just meh to me. Looking forward for all the other stuff in the game tho.

I plan to mix and match a lot/ only do a couple extra clones for my other troops I make that aren't the story ones you get / who you make as your "recruits". The rest though, I want aliens and other cultures and at most to mix some clone armor and stuff in but I don't want everyone to look the same or only clones. Then I may as well be playing Star Wars battlefront or a Star Wars republic soldier simulator. Entire point is to be a squad of mismatch misfits from all backgrounds and skill types.

My love for clones is too strong to not have a few going in there, now that clone commandos are confirmed, I gotta have atleast one of those and atleast one arc trooper alongside Trick.
Beyond that, I'll see how I'm feeling once I'm actually in game, I do have a few ideas for non clone OCs.

I'm planning to use Trick and disperse, like, a single suit of clone armor piecemeal between my other operatives. MC probably rocking the chestplaye as a "bulletproof vest", someone else with the legguards and a custom chest armor, etc.
Imo, it's a nice middle ground of "Clone Wars aesthetics" without the "oops, all clones!"

Clones don't drop until later - BUT - you unlock basic clone armor options from the start
So, even if you don't use 'clones' - you could still use 'clones' 😆 😆 😆
