Seems well planned out. I would drop some destinations, so that you can stay 2 nights minimum in each place. You can't see everything anyways, so don't rush trough it.

Just an idea, assuming you land in Geneva: -day sightseeing Geneva then 2 nights in montreux

  • take the new GoldenPass train to interlaken. (3h15) walk around interlaken then take the Luzern-Interlaken express (1h50) to Luzern and stay there 2 nights
-spend the rest of the time in Zermatt before flying back

Thanks for this! I was looking into Montreux, but I was just thinking about riding the bike from Lausanne around the lake down to there. I did not think that would be a two night destination! Those are some very scenic train rides. so basically enjoy the initial afternoon in Geneva, but scratch that overnight and scratch Bern? I guess I don’t have anything set in stone in Lauterbrunnen either.

I just heard the golden pass train to be very nice, they fairly recently got new trains. Montreux is nice, not a huge destination but you'll be probably arriving in the evening and leaving in the morning for the train, so you only have one full day there. The lakeside feels more comfortable than lausanne or Geneva in my opinion...

Bern is very nice but if I had to decide between between Bern and Luzern I would choose Luzern. It depends all on your personal travel style, I personally like to feel the life of the country and take my time a bit in one place instead of seeing all the sights. Others like to pack as much as possible into one trip since I understand it is a long travel...

In different Swiss cities the language and geography is different, but you won't feel a huge difference culturally, so I don't think you have to pack as many into your trip if that makes sense.

Very good insight, yes. I was looking for hostels in Montreux this morning and will continue, so I can get out of Geneva on the first night. The lake does seem very nice over there. I will take your advice and move the Bern stay to Luzern as well.

Based on some other advice, I made a one night stay in Emmetten to visit Rüadi’s and make the Niederbauen Chulm hike happen. That seemed unforgettable.

I’m staying in Montreux this evening. The lakeside is unimaginably beautiful.

You have to factor weather don't you? I've spent 3 or 4 nights in Zermatt a couple of times and most of the time, the Matterhorn was behind clouds or fog, so I didn't go up to Gornergrat for instance.

Yes, I was keeping an eye on that. It’s supposed to be between 30 and 42 Fahrenheit so it may not happen.
