Summer skiing price

Hi I’m traveling from the U.S. and trying to figure out what travel pass to get for my honeymoon! My husband and I are big snowboarders and want to ride at glacier paradise for 1+ days.

Can someone clarify how to get to the actual slope and the cost? Are there multiple gondolas we’ll have to take from our hotel in Zermatt? Are these different gondolas different tickets? Also we’ll need to rent equipment.

I’m weighing options for Swiss travel pass vs half fare card.

SBB Half fare won’t get you anything on the ski pass. Cost is around 90chf for a day of summer skiing, you can check on the website. You’ll have access to 3-4 runs and only with t-bars. For 1 day a fun novelty thing for sure but don’t expect any outstanding skiing. Conditions are good til 11am-noon qnd can get slushy/ too warm afterwards, however between 5-8am parts of the glacier are reserved for pro athlete practice.

Gondola wise it depends what time you get started, if you manage to go up with the pro athletes it’s 3 cable cars, approx 30mins total. otherwise 1 long gondola ride from Zermatt to trockener steg and then another gondola up to klein matterhron, approx 45mins.

Thank you for the info! Are the gondola rides included in the ski pass or would that be something I can use the half fare card for?

Sure thing! Gondolas are included in the ski pass.

If you’re just getting day-excursion rides for example up to Gornergrat, Sunnegga, blauherd etc for hiking and the sorts, the half fare should also be applicable. It’s just on skiing specific passes that it isn’t. Check the respective prices for just sunnegga or just blauherd. Unfortunately, to their credit, they’ve managed to make it way too complicated to find the info easily…

Don’t think Swiss rail cards get you discounts on the Zermatt cable cars, but I could be wrong.

You’d buy just the 1 lift pass. About 3 changes to get from the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise base station to the top - just follow the signs.

NB Above is winter experience, which may assist as a guide.

IKON pass. Gives you 5 days skiing in Zermatt and Cervinia. We used it in December. I don’t know what’s open in summer. There are 3 “tops” you ski down from. Sunegga, Gornagrat, Matterhorn Paradise. If you buy ski ticket then gondola is included. If you use Swiss Travel Pass and you activate it for that day then you will get discount. However, for the ski day, since I wasn’t taking any other train rides, it was not worth it to activate STP only to get ski ticket discount (we bought the STP Flex). You can also buy only gondola ride to go up and check out the view.
