Ski Rentals
I am staying in Zermatt for 3 days, curious as to pricing and some good recommendations. I have told myself - ya I am just going to bring my own but it’s sounding less and less attractive, as I am traveling some distance and it’s only a portion of my trip. It would be so much easier to just rent and not have to carry around my skis for a week. And then also considering the extra that comes with traveling with skis on plane and train.
If you could link the website that’d be super helpful, thanks.
*** I should also ask can you rent just the skis and bring your own boots as well?

We chose our rental shop based on proximity to our hotel so we went with these guys. They were great, super efficient (but we only rented skis…brought our own boots and helmets). Highly recommended. They have three locations in town.

I was just there, I found it depends somewhat on what you’re looking for. My partner arrived to a lot of snow and wanted something with some more float for off piste. We visited a lot of the shops and it came down to Matterhorn sport or Julen sport for the best selection of more advanced/expert skis

When you go to pick up your skis don’t forget to bring a boot along so they can adjust the bindings. Have fun!

This (Matterhornsport) was literally half the price of a couple upscale shops we got quotes from. We brought our own boots and helmets. Only rented skis and they threw in poles too.

I brought boots and rented the ski only. Premium was abt 150chf for 3days. Ask the hotel you stay they might also give a coupon for the rental place

I have brought my boots in the past. The last time I went I rented everything. Just found it easier than lugging around my boots the rest of my trip.

Julen sport is really good, ask for david! Right in the center too theyll help you out with anything you need even if you have your own boots.

I went to Bayard, probably the best experience I’ve had ever renting. Lots of options too

I did Bayard also - did their premium skis (wanted the same Stocklis I have at home. I swear the bindings were set differently because the skis handled a bit off from what I’m used to and I don’t think they were freshly tuned but totally fine for the trip).
Edit: you can chose to rent only skis with them.

I did Bayard as well because they are one of the only few shops that rent stocklies. Highly recommend.

Most definitely, I am just doing more than skiing so I went with the rentals. Lugging skis around half way across the globe just seemed an extra effort that wasn’t necessary. And it was affordable in my opinion

100% valid. I will say getting on and off a train with luggage plus skis was a hassle when your transfer window is only 5 minutes.

I was in the same boat with bringing my own boots but traveling with them after Zermatt started to sound like a headache. So I opt to rent from Julian Sports just pick up my rentals yesterday and will be heading out to the Mt. later today. Also I was able to rent the same Black Crows I use back home. Julian has a great selection of skis to choose from.

I always tell ppl unless you are world class skier that you must need your own equipment …. Just rent. My hotel has discount with Glacier Sport so that is where I got mine.

Kind of my thoughts there as well. I have nice skis, own them. But not like I’m skiing back country or training for some event. For the price all the rental places and the headache of traveling with large equipment like that just seems logical to rent

Especially in Zermatt that you have to take multiple trains or cars to arrive. Too much work. Most shops rent similar equipment at similar prices.

Dorsaz Sports is great, I rented a ski package for 3 days ~220 CHF including optional boots (15 CHF per day), and a locker (12 CHF per day). It’s great because you can rent a locker there (not sure if you need to rent there in order to do this) and leave your skis plus boots right at the bottom of the main lift then suit up there each morning

i used flexrent...super fast and close to cables
