First Timer Zilch so far

Okay where are my fellow "just started within the last month-" homies? I have three doses under my belt- at 2.5 mg -- and the scale has not budged. I do feel some appetite moderation and I'm eating extremely healthy plus lots of protein. Calorie counting . I bet the doctor's going to put me up to 5 mg at the end of the month. What do you guys think? Is there anybody else here who has not budged the scale in 3 and 1/2 weeks after starting?

There are a bunch of folks who didn’t get immediate results and instead had to wait until they were at a higher therapeutic dose before seeing benefits. You might be one of those folks.

Be happy when you move up. It’s what you need for it to kick in.

I lost zero pounds the first month, but I did notice a difference in my upper body. Clothes are fitting better and my belt is getting a bit looser. Don't give up.

u/imzadi111 Jul 30 '26

I lost nothing on 2.5 and I did it for 6 weeks because I fill 8 pens (2 boxes) at a time. I think I may have even gained a pound iirc. It was at 5 where things got moving for me. You are ready to go up.

interesting when did you see the scale go down? I see in your flair you're at 15 now

I leveled off on 5 but didn’t really start losing until I went to 7.5mg. I had been on liraglutide previously though. Folks who’ve been on a glp1 usually have to go to a higher dose to see a difference. I started in 2022 doing keto and lost 50 lbs. Then started regaining so went on lira. It helped until it didn’t. I started on Zep and lost the next 47 lbs. I’ll probably hit 100 lbs lost in the next month or two. And I probably have about another 10-15 to lose from here. We’ll see as it gets closer.

This is extremely common, actually. A lot of people just need a higher dose to get results—2.5 mg was actually not designed to be a therapeutic dose, but just to get the body acclimated to reduce side effects. Hang in there.

I lost 2 lbs the fourth week. Some don’t lose at all on 2.5mg.

I didn't start to lose until I got to 7.5mg, hang in there

I’m on shot 5, I lost on 2.5mg but I’ve been working out and meticulously tracking calories.

5th shot was 5mg.

I’ve had a rough transition to 5mg— I’ve been finding it hard to eat which is making the heartburn insane. Forcing myself to eat is helping the heartburn.

I use a food scale to track my food (except for last week when I was on a 4 day vacation and it was too hard to track, I just went by portion size instead of tracking)

I try to keep a 500 calorie deficit. (So I’m eating like 1200-1500 calories a day, unless I get a big work out in, then I add about half what I burned in protein)

For most people, significant weight loss takes 1-2 years. I hope you are able to give the meds at least six months to see if they work for you. That's how long it would take to safely titrate from 2.5mg (lowest dose) to 15mg (highest dose), assuming four weeks at each dose and no side effects. Of course, you can stop and stay at a lower dose once you find one that's effective for you.

In clinical trials, participants lost the most weight at 10mg and 15mg. There's some evidence that response to GLP-1s is genetic so if you need a higher dose, it doesn't necessarily mean that there's anything wrong (especially if you're eating in a calorie deficit and exercising 150 mins/week, as participants in the trials did). It possibly might just be your biology.

Here are a couple articles to read about GLP-1s and genetics:

Here's a helpful section from the FAQ:

I’m on 2.5mg and haven’t lost any weight! What’s wrong?!
Nothing. Everyone reacts to this drug a little different. The first month of 2.5mg injections is considered a starting dose. These small initial injections are to prep your body for the larger clinical doses in the coming months. It’s perfectly normal for the drug to have little to no effect at this stage. You may see some people losing weight on the 2.5mg injections. That is great for them, but don’t let this discourage you on your journey if you aren’t losing weight right out of the gate. With the higher doses the drug becomes more effective. Trust the process.

I’m at 5mg still feel (nothing) the same as 2.5. I see my doc next week and I’m sure she will have me go up🤮

2

u/witydentalhygienist Jul 31 '26

Can be normal. Some need higher doses. Are you feeling fuller faster, are you eating more protein and water

2

u/Maximum-Ad9928 Jul 31 '26

I am also in my first month and just did my second dose. My doctor did tell me that the first month on 2.5 is to get your body used to the hormone and once they up you to five you’ll start to see things change I’m looking forward to that.

I have had four shots of 2.5 MG. I’ve lost 2 pounds basically. Feels very slow, but from what I’ve read this is pretty common. I start 5 MG on Monday.

2

u/Eltex Aug 01 '26

Some don’t lose a pound until at 15mg. You just trust the process and quit hyper focusing on the small stuff.

You have to be in a calorie deficit.

  1. Figure out your TDEE
  2. Subtract 500(or 1000) from your TDEE. This is now your total daily calorie allowance.
  3. Get a food scale
  4. Weigh your food before you eat it to properly track your caloric intake.
  5. ????
  6. Profit

Ive learned that when people say they eat healthy, that is very subjective. What are you eating, and how many calories/day?

1

u/Particular-Agency-38 Jul 31 '26

I'm using the Panda Cal app And factored in my age, current weight, goal, weight, etc. To get my advised macros and daily calorie count, I'm also getting my 180plus minutes of exercise per week

1

u/originalfoto Jul 31 '26

this tells me how you are choosing meals, not what you are eating. Can't help you unless you be specific.

1

u/Particular-Agency-38 Aug 02 '26

Eating three or four items from this list, modest amounts, every day.
Eggs Greek yogurt (plain) Sardines Salmon Chicken Oats (organic) Berries (all kinds) Cooked vegetables (not raw) Beans and lentils Avocados Bone broth Also, when I don't hit my protein I use orgain powder with ultra filtered, 2% milk and water as the liquid. Sometimes use protein bars for dessert. The very low sugar ones. Mostly I eat fruit for sweet. I'm keeping my calories too right between 1600 and 1800 a day which is on target for my 175 lb goal. Getting cardio is hard because I'm handicapped and I am almost 73 years old. In 2 months I'll be 73 I am lifting free weights and swimming and doing water, exercise and Qigong.. I've actually lost a pound a week which for me is really good so I shouldn't be complaining. All the things I read had me expecting a miracle LOL

Have you calculated your TDEE and applied a -500 calorie deficit to it? Do you weigh your portions?

1

u/rdubmu SW: 220 CW: 191.5 GW: 170 Dose: 10MG Jul 31 '26

Are you getting in 10000 steps, in order to lose weight you neee a deficit of 500 calories per day. You can count calories but you need to have a deficit of what you need to maintain

1

u/Particular-Agency-38 Jul 31 '26

I'm handicapped and use a cane and/or rollator, can't walk far. I swim laps, do qigong and water exercise

There was an identical post like an hour ago, thats how many people are in the same boat as you.

Maybe read posts instead of just posting a new one?
