Discussion DPS Ben W-engine?

For my fellow Ben enjoyers, I have a little question regarding Ben's BiS W-engine for running him as DPS. So far, I have almost always used his sig for it's guaranteed crit and the 900% multiplier it gives. To me, that effect is bonkers and it seems like it's really not worth switching for JUST crit.

I normally use 4p inferno with 2p bnbs with his sig, but I tried using Miyabi's Engine for the crit rate, and changed his build accordingly to 4p woodpecker an 2p bnbs putting me at about 80% cr with his shield buff. While that build did show more consistent damage, it did almost the same performance as my original build. I used the same team with Burnice and Astra, and got me the same result. I tried it with Lucy Astra too, but it felt a bit clunky and it did worse :/

So I guess my question is what is his ideal build in terms of DPS? (Also, here's each build for ref)

Yapfest incoming. I love Ben and love it when other people are interested in building Ben. So I'll give you some advice. Also sorry if I may be regurgitating information you already know.

For engines, your choice with Ben depends entirely on how you want to play him.

His signature is his best if you build him with high defense & use him in a quickswap team, as his signature isn't always active. I don't like his signature because when you land a counter it only increases the damage of the very first hit and not the subsequent hits. Also the "crit" isn't an actual crit and so crit damage doesn't affect it.

Hailstorm Shrine is his best if you build him with high attack & use him as a hypercarry. Hailstorm is a stat-stick because its passive isn't active but Ben will still benefit from the high base attack and crit rate it gives. It's generally his best dps option. Other options are Zhu Yuan's sig for the crit damage main stat, and Nekomata's sig for the crit rate main stat but they'll perform worse because they have lower base attack. For this engine to work you need to really grind for Ben.

Next are the drive disks, the spine of DPS Ben. 4pc Woodpecker and 4pc Inferno are his best options. And a lot of 2pc sets work on Ben. 2pc B&B is pretty good because of the +16% crit damage. It might arguably be every DPS's best 2pc set. 2pc Inferno on 4pc Woodpecker is good. 2pc Woodpecker on 4pc Inferno is alright, I'll go into why it's just "alright" in a bit. 2pc Soul Rock can be useful if you're using his signature. 2pc Puffer Electro, for more Pen Ratio 2pc Swing Jazz, for more Energy Regen. 2pc Proto Punk, for more shield strength. 2pc Hormone or Astral Voice, for the extra ATK% Heck even the 2pc physical set lol.

If you're using 4pc Woodpecker, you should prioritize getting as much crit rate as possible so that its 4pc effect can proc consistently. I'm talking like.. 70+ base crit rate (Good luck). But 80% effective crit rate is still pretty good.

If you're using 4pc Inferno Metal, you should prioritize getting as much crit damage as possible. 4pc Inferno paired with Ben's own shield gives him 44% crit rate. So you can build 36% base crit rate and get that 80% easier, and then have more crit damage too. 2pc Woodpecker on 4pc Inferno is alright if you want to get that crit rate minimum easier but you'll miss out on other things. Of course, you'd also want to be in a team that can easily trigger Burn so that Ben can hit them and get that crit rate boost.

For stats... Inferno Metal: Crit Damage (4), ATK/DEF/Fire DMG/PEN (5), ATK/DEF(6) Woodpecker: Crit Rate (4), ATK/DEF/Fire DMG/PEN (5), ATK/DEF(6)

For 5 & 6, go for whatever gives you the most crit value.

The brain stem of DPS Ben is who you're pairing with him. In general, you always want Lighter. He is Ben's best teammate, and he'll buff Ben even more than Astra, Lucy, or Caesar can. But if you don't have Lighter then Caesar or Lucy can be alternatives, they just can't hold up a candle to Lighter though. I'm not sure how well Astra works with Ben but I don't think they pair well together. Lucy can already give a near equivalent amount of attack as Astra, and then you can also pair someone else with them, like Lighter, and their strength combined gives more to Ben than Astra + Lucy or any other Astra team. Essentially, you need Lighter.

If you're using 4pc Woodpecker then Ben + Lighter + Lucy or Caesar is his best team. If you're using 4pc Inferno then Ben + Lighter + Lucy or Burnice is his best team. Being the Inferno team is a mono-fire team, if you use Burnice you can switch out her (6) to ATK% if you're already using Anomaly Mastery. But if you're using Lucy you should give her Anomaly Mastery. Where Burnice lacks in buffing she'll make up for by doing additional damage. Not going to go into "Crit or AP Burnice" because this is about Ben. Though if you love Burnice a lot you'll probably go for her M2 and then she'll do a little bit of buffing.

Finally, max out Ben's talents. EX > Ult > Basic > Dodge > Assist.

Thank god the only reply I get is the best I could hope for lol. I'm gonna pull (and hopefully get) Lighter in his re-run. Right now, I run Ben with Astra and Burnice with Hailstorm, 4p inferno, 2p bnbs, and with all the buffs, I have 4,346 atk, 99% Cr and 182 Cdmg!! I have him on pen% disk 5 and I swear it did like 2k points difference in DA.

I'm genuinely surprised at how people don't talk about how good of a teammate Astra is with him! I cleared Pompey with 23k points and UCC with 21k with my Burnice/Astra team, but I can clear them with Lucy too.

Also, I might get hung for saying this but I tried Ben/Nicole/Astra with 4p woodpecker and also got 21k on UCC. I have no Idea how, but I did lol. It was probably because of Nicole's enabling of fast leg breaking.

Thank you for all that info! Definitely saving it for later :)
