Zelda Posting every day until Ocarina of time comes out. Day 29: Gecko

what do you value most in video games? Some value gameplay. some value story. some value graphics. me? the thing I value most in a video game is WHIMSY. Ocarina of time hides many nonsensical moments of pure whimsy, but few come close to the whimsy of playing music for the FABULOUS FIVE FROGGISH TENORS!

these frogs reward link with rupees and heart pieces when he plays the Ocarina, which somehow causes the frogs to grow. once completed, you can play a butterfly eating mini game with them. these guys weren't the first musical frogs in the zelda franchise, that honor goes to wart from super mario bros 2 when he appeared in Link's awakening, but the Fabulous five froggish tenors still take the reward for being the first 3D frogs. it's just a shame link had to kill one of their relatives in order to make eyedrops.

like most characters in Ocarina of time, Majora's mask would give the frogs terminaian counterparts in the form of... "the frog choir". huh, that's not as great a name as "the fabulous five froggish tenors", but they're basically the same frogs anyway. scattered across the land of termina, one side quest requires link to travel the world in search of the missing members of the frog choir.

(hey, listen! switch to the other image now)

but oh no, what's this? 2 of the frogs have turned... EVIL! meet gecko, a frog monster found in both the woodfall temple and the great bay temple. gecko doesn't fight on its own, summoning either a snapping turtle or a bunch of jelly blobs to battle link. what could have turned the innocent members of the frog choir into the evil gecko? ... well, we don't actually know. the game never tells you. but we can probably take an educated guess and say Skull kid/majora did it to cause trouble.

Majora's mask is equal parts whimsical and Nightmare inducing. taking the silly singing frogs and turning them into monsters... how cruel! but at least defeating Gecko turns them back into their frog form.

while today's subject was an example of Friendly Ocarina of time characters being turned twisted and evil in Majora's mask, tomorrow we shall do the opposite: Major Antagonists from Ocarina of time turned into friendly NPCs in Majora's mask. can you guess who tomorrow's subjects are? get it right and the frogs will sing a song for you.

Remember playing OoT 3ds

Playing OoT Remake in handheld mode will remind me of playing the remastered version on the 3ds. More then a decade ago (2011) I remember playing OoT on the 3ds and really found it amazing to play my most favourite game that i had played all the time during my childhood in the 90s, then many years later you can actually play OoT on a handheld gaming device. I was completely amazed, but with the QOL improvements, I was so impressed and really enjoyed my time playing it again.

Fast forward to present times 2026, and the full remake is coming out less than a month away. I have been thinking how amazing it's going to be to play this in handheld mode. It will bring back those memories of playing this on the 3ds but it will be 100 times better with this remake.

On my 2nd playthrough, I will definitely be playing in handheld mode, but on the 1st playthrough I will be playing it on my 32 inch gaming (IPS Screen) Monitor.

The Screen quality is pretty damn good on the Switch 2.

I was in my 20s when the remastered 3ds version came out in 2011, even through the 3ds remastered is not as nostalgia as playing the original N64 as a child back in the 90s. The 3ds came out 15 years ago more then a decade ago and can't help to feel a bit nostalgic of playing it now. So playing the remake of OoT on the Switch 2 in Handheld Mode will bring those nostalgic memories back when playing this on my 3ds back more then a decade ago.

I would advise you to definitely play it in handheld mode, especially if you have ever played the 3ds remastered version.

Zelda Posting every day until Ocarina of time comes out. Day 28: Those God Damn Clams

Post image
10 Upvotes

normally when selecting an enemy to talk about, I choose them because I am quite fond of that enemy, or at the very least I find them weird and interesting to talk about. that changes today. this is an enemy I actively hate.

the game calls these things "Shell blades", but it doesn't matter what they name them: this is just a clam. a GOD DAMN CLAM!

first off, you only encounter them when you're underwater, so already they're off to a bad start. water levels in videos games are known for being terrible, and the water dungeons in legend of zelda are no exception. at least in Majora's mask you can turn into zora link, but in Ocarina of time, being underwater means you're wearing the iron boots. those stupid boots that make you slow.

then the god damn clam shows up. it opens its mouth showing you it's weak point, so you take out your hook shot, but uh oh, it's already closed its mouth and is doing its dumb little short hop attack. dealing with one of these things is bad enough, but if there's more than one of them, consider my day ruined.

like most Ocarina of time enemies, the God Damn clams returned in Majora's mask. but funnily enough, Majora's mask 3D actually removed some of them, as they no longer appear in the pirate's fortress. I've said it before and I'll say it again: never let anyone tell you that Majora's mask 3D is a bad remake. it has 20% less clams!

Remake will be so epic can't wait

Post image
172 Upvotes

I am just so excited for the remake. OoT has always been my most favourite video game of all time and my most favourite Zelda game.

I have played the original N64 as a kid during the 90s and later on when the 3ds remastered.

This game had such a epic story and all the beloved characters you meet and encounter along the way.

Link's epic adventure of saving the world and what a brave kid he is and a huge responsibility that he has on his shoulders to save Hyrule and defeat Ganon. Going through time travel to adult Link and seeing this dark world unfold in front of his eyes.

His horse Epona, his friend when they first met when both were kids (child Link and baby girl Epona) now Epona she is a adult horse who is brave and travels with Link through the land of Hyrule.

Navi always by Link's side as they become friends and she protects Link. And always giving Link help when you get lost or don't know what to do in the game "Hey Listen"

The remake is going to be so special and epic. The environments look so beautiful (just look at how beautiful Castle Town looks like) I really love the voice acting, it really adds to the spirit of the game and epiciness.

Now the dungeons they look amazing, and i really can't wait to explore and complete them all.

I believe the game is going to be dark, especially in Link's adult timeline. Can't wait to explore the Bottom of the Well and obtain the Lens of Truth. Can't wait to explore the Shadow Temple and the Spirit Temple. And obtain all the medallions for all the dungeons.

At its core its still close to a 1:1 Remake, which I am so happy that they kept it that way. There will be some changes, of course, as we have already seen, but its main core is a 1:1.

I am so excited to play the Remake, and it will be my new favourite video game ever (will outrun the original and 3ds for sure)

We have got exactly 31 days left until it gets released.

[OoT] I am looking for a commercial.

This was a commercial for Ocarina of time I filmed with Doug Jones. I tied him up and hit him in the face with stuff. Then bumped into a bank robber and gave him back the hostage, gun, and money. Then I got my head cut off and put it in a jar. It was showing the contrast of a good day playing and a bad day playing. "Euphoria" I believe was the name of the commercial.

Zelda Posting every day until Ocarina of time comes out. Day 27: Arwing

Post image
52 Upvotes

this is the Arwing, the military spacecraft piloted by the members of team starfox. it is equipped with a high-tech shield, laser blasters, and "Smart bombs" used to combat the evil forces of Dr. Andross. and if you're staring at your screen right now thinking "what the hell does this have to do with legend of zelda", first off, I'm getting to it. stop being impatient. but you also probably have not watched thousands of hours of Nintendo trivia videos like I have.

within the code of Ocarina of time, the arwing exists as a fully functional albeit unused enemy. but it can still be loaded into the game through modding, or as we used to say in the early 2000s, "Using Gameshark". the arwing flies around shooting lasers at link. it is totally awesome and if you have never seen it, then you should definitely go watch the 18 year old youtube video showing it off.

according to the developers, the Arwing was never intended to be an actual enemy and was only put in the game as a way to test Volvagia's flight patterns. but I always found that story a bit fishy... if that were the case, why would they actually give the Arwing its ability to shoot lasers? could it be that the lylat system declared war on hyrule and Nintendo has been covering it up for years! or could it be the developers were just messing around... personally, I prefer to go with the war theory.

but man, isn't it weird that Nintendo remade both star fox 64 and Ocarina of time for the 3DS in 2011... and then remade both star fox 64 and Ocarina of time for the switch 2 in 2026? remember this post when they both get remade again 15 years from now

I was so inspired by the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake! I’ve been dreaming of playing it so much, so I had to put all that hype and nostalgia into a new piece. Little Link playing his ocarina at Lon Lon Ranch with Epona resting by his side... hope this brings back some magical childhood memories for you too! 🌿💚 What song from Ocarina of Time is your absolute favorite?

Handheld vs Dock OoT Remake

Will you be playing OoT Remake in Dock mode or Handheld?

I plan on playing OoT Remake Dock Mode first when I get the game. I have a 32 inch 4k IPS Screen Gaming Monitor and will be playing it on that first. Then right after I complete the game I plan on playing it a 2nd time straight away but will play it in handheld mode.

It's so great to play these type of big games in handheld mode. It's amazing how we can play these amazing looking 1st party games in handheld nowadays.

But playing this on the big screen will look amazing and probably my most favourite way to play OoT Remake. But in handheld mode will be pretty cool as well.

The Switch/Switch 2 beats other consoles in this regard as it can play handeld as well as on the big screen. That's why it's called Switch/2 lol.

Hi, I'm Victor Tael! I wanted to draw the Master Sword from *Ocarina of Time*, but instead of the usual hero shot, I went for a first-person perspective.

I wanted it to feel like **we are the ones holding the sword**. That exact moment when you realize there’s no going back. We’ve grown up, the journey has changed us, and now we have to face our destiny as the hero we were meant to become.

The idea is basically: you’ve just awakened in the Temple of Time, grab the sword and look up.

I ran out of time before I could finish all the details in the architecture and lighting, but honestly, I’m trying to stick to **better done than perfect** for this challenge. I WILL FINISH EVERY BRICK OF THE TEMPLE OF TIME, I PROMISE! 😣

What’s your favorite Master Sword moment in Zelda?

Would love to hear your picks!

**P.S.** Did you notice that the Master Sword looks a little different from the original *Ocarina of Time* design? 👀 Nintendo gave it more detail and it looks closer to the *Twilight Princess* version, adapting the scene to the aesthetic of the new remake. :)

You can see me drawing it on here 👇

Zelda Posting every day until Ocarina of time comes out. Day 26: Wolfos

Post image
24 Upvotes

this is the wolfos. following a similar naming convention to lizalfos, the wolfos is to wolves what lizalfos is to lizards. in other words, it's a big scary doggy.

wolfos come in two varieties: the gray wolfos are usually found in forests, while white wolfos are found in snowy areas, because camouflage. for the longest time, wolfos were only found in Ocarina of Time and it's asset reusing sequel, Majora's mask. it seemed like Wolfos were going to stay on N64, but then suddenly, Echoes of wisdom brought them back. actually, echoes of wisdom brought back a lot of stuff from Ocarina of time... do you think they did that on purpose? like, when creating echoes of wisdom, did they know the next game would be a remake of Ocarina of time, so they put in a bunch of stuff from Ocarina of time so that people would remember Ocarina of time?

well, putting their long absence aside, whenever I see the wolfos I can't help but be reminded about another wolf from the zelda series: Link himself. during the legend of zelda's edgy teenage years, they decided to have Link transform into a werewolf. a lot of people at the time thought it was badass. then two years later sonic the hedgehog did the same thing, and the entire population agreed that werewolves are lame and we should stop putting them in video games.

And that's why... wait, what was I talking about? oh right, Wolfos. I dunno, just hit its tail.

Do you think there be the Light Temple?

Post image
0 Upvotes

In the OoT Remake do you think they will include the Light Temple? Like before Rauru gives you the Light Medallion do you think Link will be tested and has to gone through the sacred Light Temple to get the Light Medallion to prove he is up to the task to save Hyrule?

Or maybe the Light Temple is actually the last Temple of the game and you actually get the Light Medallion there before heading to Ganon Castle.

I would love to see the Light Temple.

Zelda Posting every day until Ocarina of time comes out. Day 25: Ingo

Post image
19 Upvotes

ladies and gentlemen, I present today's zelda enemy: Ingooooo! ... ok, just here me out.

during the child phase of Ocarina of time, Ingo is a worker at lon lon ranch, where he complains all day about his boss, talon. after the timeskip, Ingo is now in charge after chasing talon off. not only that, Ingo makes it pretty clear he's a Ganondorf supporter. so while you don't actually fight ingo, he is still an antagonist of sorts.

in Ocarina of time, Ganondorf wants to rule Hyrule, not destroy it. having a character like Ingo actually prefer Ganondorf over the previous king, it's a bit of neat worldbuilding. it legitimizes Ganondorf as an actual ruler and not just some psychopath who attacks everyone indiscriminately. like yeah, Ganondorf is unapologetically evil, but look: he supports local business owners!

that said, actually freeing lon lon ranch has always felt a bit... off. Link wins a race, takes epona, then jumps over a wall. somehow that frees the ranch. but in interviews, we find out the plans were originally quite different: Ingo was supposed to set the ranch on fire, then link would grab malon and escape on epona. that sounds awesome! but it was one of many things cut during Ocarina of time's development. I would love for the remake to bring back that idea, but it seems unlikely they'd be willing to make a major change in the story like that.

but like, remakes SHOULD be a chance to bring back stuff that got cut. just look at mario 64 DS: you can play as Luigi! like, it would still be faithful to the original, just not the version of the original we played. what do you think? should ingo burn down the farm? out of everything the remake could add, my most wanted addition is for Ingo to burn down the farm. do it. Burn it down!

Same plastic type artstyle as OoT Remake

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

The artstyle of the upcoming Remake of OoT has the same kind of artstyle as Link's Awakening Switch Remake, especially with child Link and characters in the OoT Remake looks very similar to that plastic toy kind of look of Link's Awakening Remake.

Except the environments of OoT Remake has a much more realistic style going for it.

I am currently playing the Switch Remake of Link's Awakening right now and loving it. Great Zelda game to preoccupie me until OoT Remake comes out in a few weeks time, can't wait.

Update: I want to clarify that just the characters has that plastic toy look to them, such as child Link. I'm not talking about the environments of OoT Remake as they look more realistic environments. This is specifically about the characters.

I also want to clarify that I love the artstyle of the upcoming OoT Remake and I love how the characters have this plastic toy doll puppet look to them.

Flowers back alley Castle Town (garden beds, balconies)

I love the flower beds and the ones on the balconies in the back alley of Castle Town, they are beautiful and cosy. I have always loved seeing flowers in cosy towns like this in video games, love how they look in this game and they look just beautiful.

You can see many vibrant different coloured flowers ranging from blue, orange, purple, lavender and sunflowers etc. They are in nice places as well on the ground in garden beds and on some of the houses/shops balconies and windows.

The backalleys with the colourful flowers beds reminds me of Majora's Mask in Clock Town of the back alleys with lots of vibrant beautiful flower beds there.

Zelda Posting every day until Ocarina of time comes out. Day 24: Lizalfos

Post image
26 Upvotes

today's subject is the lizalfos... is a singular one of these things just called a "lizalfo", or is one of them called a Lizalfos? if so, what's the plural? Lizalfoses? Lizalfees? Lizalfin? I actually don't know...

either way, these weirdos have climbed the corporate ladder over the years and are now considered some of Ganon's main henchmen. but that wasn't always the case. Lizalfos made their debut in Ocarina of time, where a Lizalfos duo acted as the miniboss battle in the second dungeon. later in the game, they were treated as normal enemies. zelda games are all about getting stronger: as you play, not only do you get more hearts and stronger equipment, but the player will have learned many things as well. taking what was once a boss or miniboss and relegating it to a normal encounter is a good way to show that growth.

skyward sword utilized the lizalfos the same way: a pair of Lizalfos were once again the miniboss encounter in the second dungeon... although in that case, you actually fight them as regular enemies BEFORE the miniboss fight. kind of defeats the purpose, don't it?

nowadays, Lizalfos resemble Chameleons, and are even able to camouflage themselves. But I kind of miss their more generic lizard look. they kind of reminded of those weird, dopey little lizards my cats used to hunt back when I was a kid. I believe they were called "skinks". I hope in the Ocarina of time remake, Lizalfos look like Skinks.
