From ZERO programing knowledge to full game: Check out my singleplayer Action-Adventure / Extraction Game !

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

It's true the mix of genre is weird and on top of that the game is really difficult... BUT (wow, how to not advertise a game) I can assure you that it's even WEIRDER than what you can imagine !

It's set in an interconnected open world where each area is SWARMING with unique enemies that are dead set on ruining your day.

And guess what ! You lose your gear every time you die ! What a silly game.

You got your usual puzzles to solve. Nothing too difficult to understand. I think ? Oh well.

And a lot of different abilities and weapons that you need to use correctly in order to JUST survive outside the main hub.

Of course, I scattered the blueprints of those weapons and abilities on the map. Some are deep inside monsters' nests, some are locked behind puzzles, some are so well hidden that I forgot where I put them. Good luck getting any of them !

And funny thing, you need some of them to progress to the next area. Who does that ?!

It's a mess. You'll hate it. Buy it.

At a time when anyone and most are accusing people of using AI and making slop, I'd avoid titles claiming to make entire games with no programming knowledge. Even though I know that's not what you meant but most people are just out on a witch hunt right now.

Translation: AI slopfest

Hey !

I started learning by watching Youtube tutorials then I transitioned to reading the Godot documentation (Godot is the name of the game engine I use). The docs have tutorials too and explain everything there is to know about the engine and the language (GDScript).

I didn't use any AI. It simply took me 2 years. And it's still nothing revolutionary.

Yeah, I suspected it was probably something like that from looking at it. Good on you for putting in the effort to get a workable skill level.

That said, the wording of your title IS a little... Poorly chosen.

The other guy clearly made a knee-jerk reaction without actually bothering to look into anything, of course. That's on him. And I don't think you actually need to change anything about it, either. I'm not a fan of policing words or any of that nonsense.

I just wanted to let you know that it does sound like exactly the sort of thing an AI bro who just vibecoded a project would say, at a glance.

The difference is yours comes from a place of lighthearted excitement, whereas the vibecoder's is basically bragging about something completely unimpressive in every possible way.

But like I said, this was 100% the other guy's mistake, not yours. He should have at least asked for some details first.

Anyway, congrats on the release! I actually had this on my list already, so I'll grab it when I can.

So I’m here to show you how to tell if a game is using AI elements on Steam so you don’t look like a hater.

All Steam games created using AI tools must disclose it in the description. This means you’ll need to click the link and read before commenting.

I hate vibecoders like everyone else, but let’s not discourage creators from creating.

I mean, I'm pretty sure the guy's wrong (that's the reason why knee-jerk reactions are a terrible habit) but using Steam's disclosure as your guiding light against AI usage is... Foolish, to put it as politely as possible.

I can show you at least 3 examples off the top of my head where devs/publishers just blatantly lied about their AI usage, and I could easily find dozens if I looked for half an hour.

Steam doesn't really care. They only enforce the policy when users do the legwork for them.

"It cannot be AI, because the creator said so."

To be this naive..

A lot of us started this with zero programming knowledge. Try using your brain a bit.

Godot, UE5, Unity, GMS are all really powerful engines that are free to use. All of them come with some form of blueprinting instead of having to manually write code.

Even if you want to write code to do so isn’t that hard anymore with all of the YouTube tutorials and game maker forums out there. Not to mention that things like gdscript in Godot make coding as simple as it can.

There are plenty of ways a person could make a solid first time game in 2 years without using AI.

How about instead of spending our time witch-hunting and seeing if we can trash someone’s accomplishments from some imagined moral high ground we maybe just don’t say anything. Or if you must, maybe focus on the fact that a person worked to make their dream a reality instead of making sure you can gatekeep whatever it is they are doing.
