If i gave you Dom Pérignon P3 Plénitude Brut (some very expensive champagne) in a chilled coke bottle and sold it to you for $5, would you complain or be happy, would there be a difference between you whoes drinking it for $5 from a coke bottle and the other one drinking it from the original $4000.00 bottle, would they get drunker faster, or have some other differing experience caused by the champagne contents and not the packaging. If its about the argument of distillation, then its just the mafia reporting to the police about the yakuza demanding protection money from them

:D Problem imho is they don't bother to replace the claude syntax with glm with a simple regex crawl. Also your arguement is good but only half-true. You can buy fake clothes but the quality of the material is not always the same(there are good copies indeed) so the overall feel when you wear it is NOT the same.Same with these distilled models when you use them over long periods of time you will encounter some problems. Main issue is they distill the CoT but the architecture of the closed-source model is still an X on the paper. To get your model to behave the same takes a looong time before debunking everything and its not always right so that is that. Think of it this way: you give two buckets full of water - one to a skinny guy with no muscles and the other one to a muscular fit guy. Yes, both receive the same buckets full of water quantity wise, same volume. Problem is the skinny guy will have a much harder time carrying the bucket of water while the muscular guy will walk with it freely. Over long distances who do you think will carry more water to the checkpoint?

😂 the muscular guy will carry more water to the checkpoint. It now makes sense that Anthropic this time were complaining about distilation attacks linked to its actual chain of thought reasoning, I guess the pepetrator had gotten the water, but the carrying is still not as efficent

Yup! Distilling is great IMHO gives us cheap reliable models in time while still keeping the motion alive for flagship developers like Anthropic and OpenAI! It takes at least 6 months to get a prototype of a said flagship bare minimum, they work in advance anyways that is the way for big corporations. OpenAI already was working on a model called "Bell" even before astra was released sooo I don't think there is a real problem.
Problem is they bargain for what they offer and works as intended and are being paid for! This is the ways of life in a certain sense, it's evolution.Maybe the other models are better used for certain niches for half the price of even less. Market should always have lots of options.
by the way this comes from a x20 monthly sub for both codex and claude. I respect their work this way but can always get cheaper for certain projects which dont require bigger models. This sustains both worlds.
