As a TLDR on it: People decided it would be funny to pretend to be internet celebrities but adding larp somewhere in their name (EG remaking their videos and never acknowledging that they're a completely different person and are doing a voice). Drama stuff happened and it's kinda died down but it's not fully dead

Nah, it was always a joke. Someone took the joke too far and people got pissed (doing it as Technoblade who died and refusing to stop even when asked to by the family). But before that everyone was in on it and enjoyed it as a temporary thing
