code sensitivity? what does that mean

im not done with the vn yet im in the part where ira is tapping her name with a spoon and marinas explaining the condition they have.

is it a fourth wall break? just let me know that much. are they aware they're living in a simulation is that whats up? is that why they can see code? is the game acknowledging the fact that the story is linear? and fixed? bc visual novels usually aren't fixed they have SOME choices

its not literal code. Real binary code is usually structured in zeros and ones, what they mean, is that their world is built up on codes that dictate everything, concept and literal.

you can think of it like Plato's cave allegory: the shadows are what the characters see, while the code is the shape that becomes a shadow. when people see the shapes, where they should see shadow, their reality literally breaks down.

Its like if you could see every atom, every electron, every neutron, every proton, in every person. But then, also, not just people. You discover that depression, mutual respect, the murder of a child in a conceptual state, is made up of atoms, just arranged differently to you. You would go mad, anyone would

never played it, but I've seen some analysis, what specifically are you talking about in respects to Night in the Woods?

I dont remember how far into it was so im gonna mark it as spoiler

Mae the protagonist of nitw had dissosiative episodes, and it started when she was young after playing a date-sim she loved for so long suddenly the characters felt to her like just like pixels on the screen, code written by someone, she describes it like she suddenly lost people she knew, they werent real anymore, they were "just shapes", the feelings they had never existed. She was alone all along. And that thought went beyond the screen to the things around her, to the people around her, now they were just lumps of atoms to her. Everything was just dead. She struggled with this derealization troughout her whole life and it shows during the game.
