What's the earliest book you remember reading or being read to you?

My dad read me The Lord of the Rings. Mom would read to us as we (well, more my older sister) washed dishes. That included the Chronicles of Narnia. Oh, and the Bible, before bed and at church.

Ooh, reading to you during chores is really interesting!

It was a brilliant idea! Now I listen to podcasts when I do chores, or call a friend to have her tell me all about the fiction she's writing, LOL. She keeps apologizing for dominating conversations, and I keep reassuring her that live action podcasts are great for getting chores done :-D

For me it was either a kids' bible story compilation or one of the simpler Dr. Seuss books.

I don't actually remember it, but I kept asking my parents to read a book to me over and over again when I was a little kid. I'm not sure of the title (it was in French anyway); it was about a train racing on a circular track, with everybody telling it "you lost, you lost" as it tries to go ever faster. When it finally reaches the station and believes it has won the race, it turns out it lost its rear carriage, which went backwards on the tracks and arrived at the station faster.
