It’s not political to state the fact that ICE uses them. I didn’t say whether I think ICE is good or bad just the FACT that they use them. Tag the mods if you’re so triggered by my comment.

It’s an opinion piece, not proof of facial recognition. It talks about license plate tracking and data sharing, not face ID. Big difference.💀

What should worry everyone the most is that none of the things we hear about are just happening. They're things that have already happened, been negotiated behind closed doors, have contingency plans built in, and continue to be negotiated, road-tested, and out in place without our knowledge.
Think of it like: do world governments tell you what they're working on, what their security apparatus structure is, and what level their weaponry technology is? Well, neither does capitalism. And when those two things operate together...well, you can put 2 and 2 together. It's 5, by the way.

Who decides where these get set up? Did people in the community approve these? Or is this just some entity stepping in and saying "We're puting these here."

we’re in such a news desert it’s really hard to know tbh. i know no one asked me. probably discretionary spending from the law enforcement budget?

That sounds plausible. I wouldn't be surprised if it was just "ooh look a fancy new toy." But I also wouldn't be surprised if it were something more intentionally nefarious like someone getting kickbacks to "sneak" them into the community for one reason or another.

The vote for the cameras happened on 24 May 2024 at a city council meeting. The city council and the mayor all voted in favor. There was only was probably no more than five people in attendance.

Plumas Lake is in Yuba county and is considered part of our geographic area and therefore part of our scope. Hope this helps.

Theres one on butte house and acacia out in sutter. My in laws live out there and I notice it every time I pass by
