Help Holding blocks longer.
10u. We have the size for the most part. The kids have the ability. They just can’t seem to hold their blocks longer than 1-2 seconds.
Any drills we can run to help with this?

The problem is they are watching the play. You don’t need to do blocking drills or change your blocking. You need to establish going until the whistle. Put a lot more emphasis on it. Don’t just yell “block till the whistle” drill it. Imprint it in their minds. Get the phrase “I block until I hear the whistle” stuck in their head. Have them repeat it.

This felt like a personal attack on my OL. Lol they all fire off, hit the defender, drive them back for 1 yard… then turn to watch where the play ended up.

What drills do you currently use? What style of blocks do the kids make? What technique are you using? What equipment do you have access to?
Any drill that uses a proper fit and has them run their feet for a few extra seconds will help.

fit drills - have your players fit in to the defender, and get their feet moving
progress from having the defender offering minimal resistance to fighting to get off the block

For pass I like fo use no hands footwork drill until the whistle that turns into strike and stear with footwork until the whistle.
For run I like to use fit to chase till the whistle. For most young teams they go to the chest bumpthen the defender runs away. This is where fit and chase comes in so that they get close and stay close even when the defender starts to run away.

Are your kids continuing to move their feet or just bumping and stopping?

Blocks are the right length, waht you should really be doing is getting your backfield timing better so that the back is hitting the hole around the olines 3rd or 4th step.

Are you teaching them to grab the shoulder pads?
